My First Quilt, a Baltimore Album
My husband decided I needed a hobby so he found an ad in the newspaper for a quilting class. I went to make him happy. The teacher asked what kind of quilt would I be interested in making. I said I had no idea what kind of quilts there were. So she said she would teach the class to do Baltimore Albums. She said anything else would be too simple. Little did I know what a Baltimore Album was. She gave us one block pattern a week and it usually took me 2 to 4 weeks to complete a block as I stockpiled the rest as they came in. All in all, it took me 2 years and 3 months to finish a queen sized Baltimore album, hand quilting it until it was finished. I entered it into the Florida State Fair and it took the Blue Ribbon for First Place and the Purple Ribbon for Best of Show! I couldn't believe it. It was all because our teacher, Helga Curtis, author of three quilting books, thought we were capable of doing something difficult.
