This week we stopped by my husband's uncle's house during our July 4th travels. I was showing him one of my quilt in progress and he said, "I have something for you." He pulled out of his closet this gorgeous quilt and said I could have it. I was speechless. It was made by my husband's Swedish grandmother, Jenny Johnson, in the early 1930s when she was living in New Jersey. My uncle says he remembers her cutting out the applque pieces to make this quilt. He says that the finished top was "sent to the nuns" to be quilted. The stitch work is amazing. I feel quite honored to have this quilt in my home and hope to someday pass it on to one of my husband's nieces so that it stays in the family as a precious keepsake.
