Door with Vines

I've pinned some vines to my door. I used yarns of various kinds and hit them lightly with a heat gun to melt them a bit. I really looks like rough bark. I'm going to play around with the location of the vines for a while until I get something I am happy with. If you look closely, I've been playing around with leaves. I free motion-ed straight stitching in the shape of a leaf on some Kunin felt, then hit that with a heat gun. I shrunk the leaves and made them look bug-eaten and old.I'm also going to put some fuzzy yarn in the grouting in a few places to represent moss.

I am totally amazed everytime I see one of your updates. This has got to be the best display of talent I've ever seen. I can't even imagine what else you could add. It looks wonderful!!

Thank you all SO MUCH for all your nice comments! I'm seriously going to hire all of you to stand in my studio and give me positive feedback...lol.

I've been working with placement of the vines and I already made some changes. I moved the longer vines on the right to the left and the shorter ones from the left to the right.

I thought the quilt was getting too right-side heavy with the large hinges and the large gray bricks in the arch so I added the long vines to the left to balance out the composition better. The longer vine is where most of the leaves will be.

I also blocked and trimmed down the quilt, stay-stitched around the outside and it's now ready for binding...woohoo!

I'm now working on leaves, hundreds of them...ugh.

Wow, Jerry, wow!  An incredible quilt!

And I can relate about the leaves, having just finished a quilt top with 112 berries & 96 scallops in the sashing & borders.  My friends were laughing because I'd sing "this is the quilt that never ends" (sung to the tune of "this is the song that never ends") while I was working on all of those by hand.

MNnancy...done? oh heavens no...lol. I still have LOTS of work left to do! Right now I'm sewing on the vines after moving them around getting just the right positions. And I'm still creating MORE leaves...ugh.

MICHELLES-2...Thank you very much! It sounds like you can relate to my ordeal...lol. And yes, I sometimes feel like this is the quilt that will never end!

As of today, the vines are finished and sewn on. Now on to the leaves...I'm beginning to see the finish line!
