I made this quilt top for my mother for Christmas...and I never finished the rest. So, she is coming by tomorrow after going to the cemetery and I was determined to finish. We saw this little quilt in a quilt shop last spring and my mom fell in love with it. She never falls in love with things lie this, so I got the pattern. The pattern is called Charlotte by Me and My Sisters Designs. Then I got a swinging deal on the fabric a few weeks later during a shop hop. I made it as a surprise until I realized that I needed to get binding and know how she wanted it quilted. My mom is super super picky and so I knew that after spending money and time making something I better get exactly what she wanted. Well, I finished the top in time for Christmas and took it to my in-laws to finish...and never did. So shameful that it is Memorial Day and she is finally getting her Christmas present. I put the backing on, quilted it with my darning foot and bound it today. I love it!!!! Now I just need to make myself one. Just need to go buy some more white fabric..I am plain out.
I am new to the darning foot. In fact this is only my second attempt at this type of stitch. I usually just do everything with a stitch in the ditch because it is so much easier...so I tried this design. The problem is that I just need more practice on learning how to get the right speed for me. I push the pedal too hard sometimes and not hard enough other times. I will eventually learn how to stay nice and steady to get the same stitch length and a feel for moving in a pattern. (of course having my year-old daughter needing my attention every five minutes makes it hard to stay steady.) Also, I have to be patient...something that I am terrible at when it comes to crafting. I never have enough time to do anything so I hurry. Ugh. I posted some other pictures besides just this on my blog if you are interested in seeing a bit more. amaliesarmfuls.blogspot.com
