I made this  several years ago for my husband when he got promoted to MSgt in the US Air Force. I used his old uniforms for the 9-patch squares and then old work t-shirts for the plain squares and the middle. I used pockets and name tapes, laundry tags, laundry instructions and other bits from the uniforms. I even used the laces from his boots that he wore during basic training. The MSGt patch in the center has his "line number" embroidered on it. I sent it to him (he was deployed to the desert at the time) and he loved it! It hangs in his office and is always a topic of conversation :)
