This butterfly applique is modified from I believe a 1950's pattern.  I will try to locate the original pattern that was modified and comment on it here ASAP. I did machine applique with variegated machine quilting thread to applique the 2 pieces down to the background fabric after I used spray adhesive to hold the pieces in place.  I was amazed how quickly the process went.  This quilt was a birthday gift for my daughter when she turned 25.  Now I wish I could find an angel pattern that I could simplify just as much to make a similar quilt for my oldest daughter.
