Two years ago i found this super easy quick quilt pattern in a magazine and decided that I would make a quilt for my mom.  Christmas is her very very favorite holiday to decorate for, so much so that she has a year-round Christmas room.  She likes the deep christmas red and green.  So, I need to go by and take a picture of that quilt at her house.  While I like giving quilts to people and noticing them in their homes, I really make quilts that I know that I would like to keep.  So I made myself one too.  It took me two years to get it quilted.  I made a mistake when ordering the quilting and forgot to mention that I didn't want it quilted through the applique berries and leaves on the corners and was pretty mad at myself for doing so, because I really don't like that part.  I waited a long time to get it quilted and was too afraid to do it myself on my machine.  I have since practiced with my darning foot and I am starting to feel better about doing a large quilt with my machine.

I really like that it is a quick and easy quilt to make from a charm pack.  However, I would not have liked it without the applique.  It gives it character and dimension.  These two quilts were my first experience with applique and I can tell you that I could never live without Steam a Seam 2.   That stuff is amazing.  In quilting I am always afraid to try a new technique because I learn that there are new products to help me quilt and I then after the initial discovery learn that I can never live without them.  Ah....

I have a wall hanging that I made out of the same fabric with three ornaments in the middle.  I need to get it out of our storage unit and take a picture.  I can't wait to finally put them both up this year together.  Hope you enjoy.

Lovely bright colors. I do like the applique added in the corners. It really adds interest to the quilt. Very nice job.

Amalie - I like this, for exactly the reasons you mention!  I made three table runners from the same charm pack.  Two of them were gifts for friends but I was glad that I had enough squares left to make one for myself.  I'm not good at applique but I took a class to learn how and we used Steam a Seam 2 also.  I saw some of the things I was doing wrong after the class.  The applique really adds to your project.  I'm still trying to make myself to do more machine quilting on my smaller projects.  But I send anything bigger off than a wall hanging off to a long arm quilter also.

You are right Amalie --- the applique in the corners really makes the quilt.
