I started this quilt (and quilting) back in 2002 when I took a class with my niece. Little did I know that someday I would be working daily amongst quilters - some of the kindest, most supportive and best people in the world! : )

So, I finished this one in 2006. I know, a long time for a simple rail fence! I would highly recommend this block (and the envelope binding) to beginning quilters, and I can assure you that it does not typically take six years to complete.

Thinking about this pattern for my grandaughter's quilt. I think it would well with the material I chose for her.  Seeing your color pattern makes the rail fence pattern look very different. Thanks for sharing.

Nothing like saying, "finished. What's next?" Don't feel bad. I have a small applique quilt that took 10 years start to finish. I had made the first block within an hour of getting the magazine the series started in, and then ordered the pattern as I did not have the patience to wait for 9 months for all the blocks. But "finished" is "finished". Feels good, doesn't it?

I have never made this quilt but am teaching my 8 yr old granddaughter to do it.  She picked the fabric and is sewing the strips.  The seams might not be all that straight, but it will look good and she is so proud of it!
