I designed the matryoska doll appliques for daughter and her sisters and friends who are from Russia and are starting their own families. The nesting dolls represent generations of family or they represent sisterhood with the larger dolls protecting the smaller dolls.

When I spotted the fabric, it reminded me of one paint style I saw in handcrafts while on a visit to Russia.

The photo doesn't do the colors justice. I am really proud of this quilt; it is my best work to date.

41.5 x 41.5 lap quilt or child's quilt

100% cotton fabric and batting

machine pieced; machine quilted; machine applique; hand embroidery on the matryoska dolls.

Very cute quilt Darla.  Before I saw your description, I knew those were the little Russian nesting dolls.
