This was made from a flannel panel that I added a row of blocks down each side and then borders.  Had trouble with the binding that I added also out of flannel.  Too much bulk to make nice miters in the corners.  Next time I will just bring the backing around to the front as a binding when I work with flannel to save myself the headaches.

I kept the quilting very simple.  I just outlined the boat, dinosaurs and train engines in the squares of the panel plus quilted around the 5 square pictures.  I also X'ed all the blocks and stitched in the ditch around the borders.  The backing (which I didn't take a picture off :o{ ) was a soft green flannel with darker green polka dots.  I wish I would have bought enough of that do use that for the borders too.  Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

Love it!  I made a quilt very similar to this for a friends grandson but it was not in flannel.  Your idea of adding blocks to the sides was a very good one, nice job.
