This is a project that I haven't finished yet.  it is all felted, using wool roving, fabric, yarn, angelina fiber, and a piece of flat wool as the background.  i intend to use it in a quilt.  i will embellish it with beads, embroidery, etc.  There is no sewing on this piece; it is all felted down using the Babylock Embellisher 5-needle machine.

This is gorgeous.  I may just have to break down and give this technique a try.

Beautiful piece.  So there is an actual machine to do this felting and not a hand process?

Marge -

Yes, I use the Babylock Embellisher (which is also called a felting machine).  Mine has 5 needles, although they have one with seven needles now.  You can remove needles if you want to felt narrower spots.  I'm sure there are other brands besides Babylock that make these machines.  There is no thread used; you are just felting down the material on your project, which makes it anchor itself together.  The felting process breaks down the fibers and makes them adhere to each other and they are thus stuck together.  It is really a fun thing to do!   There is a website called www.feltingforum.com which is a neat place to learn more about this technique.  There are other sites also.

To view a REAL artist at this technique, go to www.lizemeryfelt.com and take a peek at her gallery!  Amazing!  It is humbling to see this woman's talent!!!
