Nellie Turner lived through the 1930's Depression, when she bought a home, and rented out rooms in it. Her grandson says she loved to quilt, smoke cigarettes, and drink alcohol. But she was a very talented top maker, and I have several of them to finish for her descendants. As I quilted this lovely original quilt top of Nellie's, I grew rather found of her excellent taste in color, proportions, and use of old clothing to make a stunning quilt. These old quilts pull on my heart strings.
