I found this beautiful Azalea fabric in NY while visiting my mother.  It has my favorite color of Azaleas in it.  I wanted to do a paper pieced project and decided to try a Mariner's Compass.

Once I found the 2 companion fabrics, I couldn't decide which color to make my compasses, so I made a couple of sample half compasses and asked my 14-year old son which color he preferred. He told me to combine the colors in the compasses.  So that's what I decided to do and this is the result.

Once I made the compasses I sketched out the diamond and octagon borders. This is a 3 wall hanging set that I use in my living room in the spring.

The compasses are machined pieced then appliqued down on the background.and the quilts are hand quilted.

I have never tried paper piecing, but I just might give it a try! Your quilt looks wonderful!
