I collected fat quarters all year to make a quilt for my niece, Darrah.  I started with green which is her favorite color.  I went to a lot of quilt stores I had never been in, which was fun.   As Christmas neared, I chose to go with an 8" square and layed them all out.  I really had no idea if it would work.  I pieced several blocks just because I couldn't stand just plain 8" blocks.  After changing the layout several times, I put them together.  I made two of these, one for another neice in orange and they were the first quilts I sent to a long arm quilter.  It was worth it and she did a great job.  I loved making these quilts and plan to do it again this year for two more nieces or nephews.  It was fun to collect the fat quarters all year and then put them together.

Oooo, I love those colors! And I think your occasional patchwork blocks add a lot of personality to the quilt. I bet you enjoyed all the memories those fabrics stirred up from your travels too. Thanks for sharing.

Great job, and so much effort to go to all those quilt shops. I am sure she will love it

Love the contemporary flare - and especially the originality.  Simple offers the most class in many instances and this time you hit the nail on the head - just beautiful..............

These are great colors too.  The addition of the pieced blocks to break up your 8" blocks was a great idea
