Our quilt guild has a tradition in which each outgoing president chooses a design for her "President's Quilt". She may purchase all of the fabrics, cut the pieces out and the members put the blocks together; she might pass out copies of the pattern block and asks each one to use fabric from her stash; she might tell us she wants a certain theme, and what size she wants the block to be. I chose the Grandmothers Fan, using the printed foundation fabric to insure the size of the block. I already had the black base of the fan done for each one, gave them 4 strips of my fabric and asked them to choose 3 of the 4, and add 3 of their own. I also asked them to give me a piece of lace to go with it. Then I put each block together, added more of my own and, voila, I had my President quilt!
