Our quilt guild's summer retreat several years ago was Patricia Pepe's Venetian Tiles using her X-block template. I had a set of the Blended Beauty fabrics from Keepsake Quilting that I wanted to use, but I could not get them to work in the way that was called for in the pattern. So I simply sewed three strips of each color set and cut them at the angles called for by the X block. I made one set going one direction and another set going in the opposite direction. Then I assembled them with the black sashing and called it "Stained Glass." Before it was quilted, I had it sitting in front of a window and the way the light shone through it was just like church windows, which is very fitting since my brother-in-law is a Presbyterian Minister. My sister immediately signed it up for display in their town's library. (I later found that one of Patricia Pepe's pattern's is named "Stardust" and has a similar look.
