This is my own design I created for my sister-in-law, who hasn't seen it yet!

I fused the back cactus pads on to the background and then created each pad, filled with batting, individually and stitched together for layers to give dimension.

For the thorns, I  did French knots using embroidery thread and then the second color of embroidery thread for the "thorn" and separated the threads.

The Gecko is three layers all which have batting in them.  I started with the main body, (bottom) and "stacked" them into place on the body. I used spray adhesive to hold

them in place to make sewing easier.

The "blooms" on each cactus pad are little pouches that I sewed individually and then stuffed with jute string and embroidery thread for color.

My mom made  a headboard this reminds me of. She took carpet scraps and cut shapes, mountains, rocks, cactus, streams etc and glued them on backing. She crocheted cactus to make 3 dimensional areas. Great memory. CC

What fabulous job.  I love geckos, and the embellishment on the cactus is so creative.

Nice quilt.  You should think about getting some of your designs published.
