I decided that, as a memory of our cross-country RV travels, I would make a 12" square for each state we visit. The fabrics (as much as possible) have been purchased in or near the state they're used for. Each is a paper pieced pattern that I used from Carol Doak's 50 States book - either as printed or modified - but the colors were chosen for my impression of the state. The weather, the shape of the land, even the smell contributed to my fabric choices, and each is quite different. I am looking forward to sewing them together into a king-sized quilt. I am so thankful that many of the quilt shops I visit will cut fat 1/4's for me out of a bolt. I can only store so much fabric as I travel (and I can never just throw away any of those delicious scraps) and I rarely need more than a 1/4 for any square. This one is the Vermont square, made with reproduction Shelbourne village fabrics. I have 24 done and am lagging behind in my sewing!
