My brother comishioned me to make this for our Uncle who was suffering from Parkenson's desease. He had been a Heuy pilot during hte Vietnam war. His great pleasure in life was fly fishing, so I combined his interests into this lap quilt. I mailed it to my aunt, only to learn that he died 2 days after recieving it.  I regret that I didn't sew faster.I don't know if he ever even saw it... but his family displayed it on the pulpit during his funeral and my cousins all swear that when they think of their father, the image I made is what they feel.  I guess I didn't fail completely if it brings them comfort.

Edit: I had originally typed "He died 2 days before his death".... now how anyone could manage that is beyond me! That's what I get for trying to write while the kids are jabbering at me. LOL Oh's fixed now.  *Blush*

CC this is so beautiful and the memories it will inspire are well worth the work.  I feel sure your uncle sees his quilt with better eyes than ever before.

What a wonderful tribute and a beautiful quilt.  You are a very talented quilter and designer.  I am glad to read that you also teach and are able to pass your passion on to your children.  I have a 5 year olld grandson who loves fabric, sewing and ironing, so I hope to share my love of quilting with him, as my mother and grandmother did with me.
