Patriotic Warriors

This is a Purple Heart Quilt of Valor I presented to the Sgt of Arms at my American Legion over the weekend. It was truly a pleasure to give Richard his QOV in his time of need especially. He just started radiation treatments and he needs this quilt to keep his spirits up!

Gary and Sharon Blackshear are very dear friends of mine and it was such a treat to give Gary's dad his Quilt of Valor. Gary said it was only the second time he'd ever seen his dad cry! I don't know how he does it!

Sorry for the sloppy pics. Have been using my phone since my camera died on me and I can't get the dang thing to take a decent picture unless it's when I don't have make up on or something! LOL, but this is the 2nd QOV from the weekly block challenges. They were smaller than the others so that's why I grouped them together instead of a sampler but I just love how they turned out!. All three that I've posted will be finished by QOVSB (Tina Reed, KS) and displayed in the upcoming exhibit in KS at a museum special from Sept. thru November and then presented to warriors.

A friend and I are starting 'Operation Valor'! It's basically to promote and inspire people to get involved in making Quilts of Valor. Some may not have time for an entire quilt so this is the solution! We will be emailing and posting on the blog ( www.operationvalor.blogspot.com ) 2 blocks a week for everyone do make and mail to me. Raffle Quilt

This quilt will be raffled at my American Legion for a Rider that went down last month on one of our fundraisers. He was road guarding for our group when he hit some gravel and went down and sustained severe facial injuries among others. :( But he's on the mend and grateful is was ONLY injuries that will heal.

She's finished! I was so fortunate to have a fellow QOVer following my progress on this quilt and emailed me and offered to quilt her for me! THANK GAWDDDD!...I was truly worried, and the quilting on this quilt is just amazing! I couldn't have done it on my standard machine! Pics to follow of the quilting! It's just beautiful! the bus that it's going in is at www.servingproject.org (They are always needing donations to keep this program running! Please help if you can! It's for our hero veterans!) ;)

I will post a better picture in just a minute! lol....I can't get a full picture of this quilt on my floor at this point because of the sheer size! She's 16 feet long and I have one more border to put on her before she's complete. This quilt is going to be attached to the ceiling of the Wounded Warrior Bus. This bus was the brainchild of a local friend and he's been working on it for 2 years now. If you'd like to get involved he can be found at www.servingproject.org I can not wait to get this finished this week and see how she looks in the bus! It's going to be amazing!

I was asked to make this quilt to hang on the roof of the Wounded Warriors Bus (www.servingproject.org) and this is the grand pattern! I've started it and will post my progress! It's going to be the largest quilt I've ever done! This bus was designed and done by volunteers to take wounded warriors to and from their doctors appointments. It's a beautiful bus. And Keith, Board of Directors, met me at another fundraiser and asked if I could add a womans touch to it. After he told me a bit about the bus this is what I came up with. The purple heart in the center is designed by a friend of mine, Janette Killough.

I wanted to repost my brothers quilt. This day, July 4th...he leaves on his 4th trip to Iraq. I am so proud of my brother and he's one of the reasons I make Quilts of Valor. Here's is a note my sister in law wrote today....thought it was worth sharing with his quilt:

Deployment #4

So the count down has now begun, and all the packing has been done. Camo bags sit by the door, just like the 3 times before. Our home is filled with 3 sad faces, while you go off to far away places. Another year you will be gone, while we wait, trying to be strong. It never gets easier, chancing fate, or living this military life of hurry up and wait. But as you leave on this specific day, I am remind why we live this way. So once again we will watch you go, but not before I am sure you know. That even though without you is hard, and leaves us feeling lonely and scarred. Our love for you will never falter, nor will it ever change or be altered. So stay safe and come home to us, we can't wait to see that big white bus!
