Charity Quilt 2

This quilt is a block left over from a quilt I'm making. I ran out of the yellow so had to substitute another yellow. To make the original quilt look balanced I ended up with 2 extra blocks. It is made mostly from scraps. Another quilt being donated by the Ohio Chapter of Reap What You Sew.

"Quilt of Joy"

At our church we have a secret sister program. My secret sister this past year has been like Santa Claus. Every time I got a package it was like Christmas and was so joyous. She spoiled me! There were always books, figures or something with sunflowers, a music box, a musical Christmas egg, CDs, Civil War jigsaw puzzle, Civil War movies, set of sunflower coffee mugs, raisin oatmeal cookies, and the list goes on and on. She was so very generous. Today (May 5, 2012) was our garden party and the time we reveal who our secret sisters are. When she revealed herself to me, she received a surprise in return. This "Quilt of Joy". I was so excited when I gave it to her that I forgot to take a photo of the finished quilt. So this photo is before I actually quilted it. I'll have to call her and see if I can get a photo.

The quilt is made from scraps and leftover fabric from other projects. All fabrics are 100% cotton. It is my own design, led by the Holy Spirit. I had no control; it took on a life of it's own. It is machine pieced and quilted.

Here is the April selection for the mini quilt BOM that I belong to. I really had fun making this one because the fabrics in my stash were just perfect! I also love making these mini quilts because I love to do machine applique, use scraps, and I'm going to have a super Christmas gift for someone at Christmas time!

APQ 2012 Mystery Quilt Blk 2

I've made up the mystery quilt block from scraps and plan to give it as a candle mat to my secret sister in May. The pattern came from American Patchwork & Quilting April 2012 issue. I had to download the instructions from allpeoplequilt.com.

Preemie Quilts

Reap What You Sew is a quilt group in Phoenix, AZ that makes quilts all year and distributes mostly to children's charities. These are some of the preemie quilts I made with donated materials. People are always giving me materials because they know I quilt for charity. I'm also known as the "queen of scraps" at RWYS.

Moose on the Loose

I made this quilt for one of my brothers after my accident when I got home from rehab. It is made from homespuns and a whole lot of men's shirts. Since I didn't have the recommended triangle ruler, I made a template from the one printed in the magazine. By the time I finished this quilt, I thought I'd never do another triangle again!! The reason I called it "Moose on the Loose" is because the fabric on the back is a plaid with a moose in the center of each square. I cut one moose out and sewed on the front of the quilt. If you look real close, you might find him. Since then I have done several quilts that have triangles in them, but I have a ruler or two now.

Scrappy Oopsie Daisy

This is an excellent pattern for using up scraps. I hand quilted this quilt. If I ever make it again, I will machine quilt. My fingers are still healing! I must say, however, I love the quilt!

Mila's Fishes and Loaves

This pattern is known as Fishes and Loaves (also as 2-1/2 x 4-1/2). It a great pattern for using up scraps. It's one of my favorites for charity quilts. For this particular quilt I had four fabrics and just couldn't think of of another quilt pattern to use. Besides I needed to make it quick. And there are so many ways you can lay out the blocks. Mila is one of my youngest grand-daughters and is a little cutie.

Chuga Chuga Choo Choo

This was Joshua's Christmas gift. He loves Thomas and goes around saying "Chuga Chuga Choo Choo". All pieces are rotary cut and chain pieced. The quilt is machine quilted.
