OK got it done on the weekend that she was staying. No problem. Her nephew loved it......problem. So did Dad. Yes Dad had the quilt more than the poor little boy could have it. So Jan calls and asks if we could do it all over again. She couldn't get the same print at the first and we actually liked it better. So nephew got the nicer quilt in the end!

My secret sister this past year has been like Santa Claus. Every time I got a package it was like Christmas and was so joyous. She spoiled me! There were always books, figures or something with sunflowers, a music box, a musical Christmas egg, CDs, Civil War jigsaw puzzle, Civil War movies, set of sunflower coffee mugs, raisin oatmeal cookies, and the list goes on and on. She was so very generous. Today (May 5, 2012) was our garden party and the time we reveal who our secret sisters are. When she revealed herself to me, she received a surprise in return. This "Quilt of Joy". I was so excited when I gave it to her that I forgot to take a photo of the finished quilt. So this photo is before I actually quilted it. I'll have to call her and see if I can get a photo.

The quilt is made from scraps and leftover fabric from other projects. All fabrics are 100% cotton. It is my own design, led by the Holy Spirit. I had no control; it took on a life of it's own. It is machine pieced and quilted.

Indy's Sampler Quilt

I've made Indy placemats and pillowcases, so of course, he had to have a quilt too. I couldn't think of any one pattern. For Christmas a friend gave me a quilt book with various blocks in it and I've been wanting to make some of the blocks. Indy's quilt has 9 of those blocks. When I started the blocks, Indy was really sick. He would lay by my sewing table and as I finished each block I would show it to him. He gave his tail 1 wag and licked the block. I think that was his seal of approval. The block titles are Ohio Star, Ohio Snowflake, Friendship Star, Twisted Star, Windblown Puzzle (modified), 12 Triangles, Handweave, Garden of Eden, and Kaleidoscope. As soon as I finished the quilt this afternoon, I put it down for Indy to see and he immediately sat right in the middle and possed for pictures!! I think he likes it.

I'm making a few mini quilts for my secret sister for reveal day the first Saturday of May. She can either use them on a table or hang them on the wall. It didn't matter that his children had quilts. So I made him this almost all wool quilt in the same pattern as his brother's quilt. This was not easy to make...I'm allergic to wool. But didn't it turn out beautiful?? It was worth all the itching and Benedryl. Because of the colors I had to take the top into the store to match backing fabric. The clerks all stopped what they were doing to help me when they saw me walk in with it. Lucky it was a slow day! Even the store manager got into the act!! We ended up picking out a solid because we just couldn't settle on a print that even came close to coordinating with the front colors. I didn't think a teal and maroon would be so hard to match!! We couldn't even find a black that we liked. All of the wools were in my stash. Because I was having a hard time finding wool fabrics to complete the quilt, I substituted thin wale cordoroy and microfiber fabrics. The quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted on the diagonal and in the ditch.

Irish Wedding Gift

A flannel quilt for my son Mark and his wife Heather on their wedding day. When I asked Mark what they wanted, he said "an Irish plaid quilt, but please don't take 10 years to make it!" The first quilt I made him was a Dresden plate that I originally started by piecing by hand. He got that quilt not long before he got married! I did not finish that quilt by hand piecing!! Anyway, this is the result of his request for an Irish plaid quilt. It is all flannel, pre-washed of course, flannel backing. machine pieced, and machine quilted. If I remember correctly, they were 8" squares laid out 12 rows with 9 blocks to a row. It was very simple. I appliqued a heart with their names and wedding date. They love the quilt! It is made from homespuns and a whole lot of men's shirts. Since I didn't have the recommended triangle ruler, I made a template from the one printed in the magazine. By the time I finished this quilt, I thought I'd never do another triangle again!! The reason I called it "Moose on the Loose" is because the fabric on the back is a plaid with a moose in the center of each square. I cut one moose out and sewed on the front of the quilt. If you look real close, you might find him. Since then I have done several quilts that have triangles in them, but I have a ruler or two now.

Ohio Star Lap Quilt

This Ohio Star quilt is quilted with an Ohio Star motif.
