Fishes and Loaves

Also known as 2-1/2 x 4-1/2. I just cut and cut and cut. I guess that's why it's called Fishes and Loaves. You never run out of pieces, no matter how hard you try! You can lay the blocks out in so many different ways and no 2 quilts look the same. You can make the quilts any size you want. Good use of scraps. I've machine quilted and I've tied. Children and grown-ups alike love these quilts. They look at all the different fabrics and always can pick out something that reminds them of something else. It's cool to see their eyes light up.

Scrappy Quilts for Charity

Here are some of my scrappy quilts. I take 6-1/2 squares of muslin and sew strips laying diagonally in the middle from corner to corner. Then attach strips working outwards. When done, trim square to the muslin 6-1/2 square. When you have enough squares, connect in any manner you desire to the desired size quilt. I find that either a red or yellow border looks best because it makes the other colors pop. Most of the time I use red. I machine quilt all of these quilts usually on the diagonal.

This pattern is known as Fishes and Loaves (also as 2-1/2 x 4-1/2). It a great pattern for using up scraps. It's one of my favorites for charity quilts. For this particular quilt I had four fabrics and just couldn't think of of another quilt pattern to use. Besides I needed to make it quick. And there are so many ways you can lay out the blocks. Mila is one of my youngest grand-daughters and is a little cutie.

9 Lives of the Whyte Kat

A Fons and Porter pattern called "Feline Frenzy". I named my version "9 Lives of the Whyte Kat" since the quilt was given to a friend who has a white cat. She is always telling of his adventures and I think he's used up his 9 lives! This is a paper pieced pattern, but goes quickly. I machine stitched the whiskers and machine appliqued the nose, eyes, and words. Actually the words were not part of the pattern. The quilt is machine quilted. It is also made completely from scraps except for the backing.
