Everyone was to choose an Amish pattern. Somehow we ended up with some extras, so I ended up with a nice sized quilt. I have decided to donate my quilt to Standing Stones Retreat Center in Arizona. They counsel ministers and their spouses and military chaplains. When my friend Dave put out a list of items they were seeking donations for, one of the items was 12 quilts. I sent off an email immediately volunteering 12 quilts and within the hour Dave called me and said there was no rush because he knew my work and was willing to wait for it. The Amish Retreat Exchange Block Quilt is the first completed quilt. We had a lot of fun at last year's retreat. This year's retreat is June 19-22 and will be held at The Rural Thimble in Charm, Ohio.

Mini Sewing Quilts

A mini quilt with sewing tools is so cute that I couldn't resist buying the pattern. He really must have wanted have wanted the banner because when he'd come to give me communion, he will now say the 23rd Psalm. The pattern leaves the pockets loose at 2 large pockets. Instead I stitched down the middle of each pleated area and created 6 pockets. But they would make adorable pillows so that's exactly what I did and they loved them! At Hobby Lobby I found pillow forms that were just 2" too long, but I was able to stuff it down in there and it filled out the pillow cover nicely. Unfortunately, I was only able to get a photo of two of the pillows. The pillows are made from 100% cotton, machine applique, and machine pieced. The open end is closed with buttons so they can take the cover off and wash if necessry.

Autumn Table Runner

This autumn table runner is for my neighbor Audrey who is always doing things for me or taking me to CVS or grocery store. She saw an advertisement of a quilt that she liked, but she didn't like the fabric shown in the ad. She asked me to make the same quilt using fabric that had something to do with fishing. She wanted a Christmas gift that had to do with his favorite hobby...fishing. Oh, did I mention that they have only been married a little over a year? And their first date was a fishing date?

I went straight to e-Quilter. They very seldom let me down and sure enough they had everything I needed. You can't see the back of the quilt, but the fabric looks like it's the lake. I found the center panel of various fishermen and views of different types of fish, the plaids for the borders, the solid border, and the border with the fishing paraphanalia. All fabrics are 100% cotton. The hardest part is looking at a picture and calculating the size of the quilt and the pieces.

For quilting, I made my first attempt at free motion quilting by doing waves in the center panel. Then I roughly outlined the objects in the outside border.

When Indy's trainer picked it up, she fell in love with it and she thought her husband would too...but then they are still newlyweds.

Blue Sampler Quilt

This sampler quilt is very special.
