I had taken a beginner's quilting class in November 1993 thru a training center from Chrysler where my husband worked in Huntsvile, Alabama. The instructor for this class was Helen Debuty, owner of "The Crafty Bear" in Decatur, Alabama. I took the class with my best friend Rita Holdmeyer. The class involved making a 14" muslin practice square, bound in a floral self made binding. It was hand quilted by using masking tape to guide our lines for quilting. I gave this practice piece to my Granddaughters for their baby dolls.

In January of 1994, I began this 32" X 32" Sampler Wall hanging, is a Georgia Bonesteel pattern, Lap Quilting, quilt as you go, then lap it together and sew on the back side. I enjoyed making this, but have not done any other quilting projects this way since. I chose four different 100% cotton fabrics. The four 12" blocks are Drunkard's path, Applique hearts, Ohio Star and Nine Patch. The blocks were hand cut with templates, hand and machine pieced, finished with hand quilting and hand stitching the completed blocks together. A floral 3" sashing and border were machine sewn on and included is the self made bias binding. I used a Moutain Mist batting.
