Lindseys Baby Quilt #2

Bunco buddy, Lindsey is expecting Baby #2 August 2013, so this quilt is for her Shower in May 2013. Sex is unknown at this time, so this quilt may be a little feminine for a boy and may need to swap out with another after the birth. This was a fun, simple quilt to do and fmq.

Modern Scrap Happy Quilt back

A gift for my 21 year old Grand-daughter, so it had to have a little more modern flare. The fresh swirl pattern in the border print and the rust binding seemed to add that touch.

I gave the back of this scrappy quilt a decidedly modern feel for the 21 year old (grand-daughter) recipient. The border print with the swirls was the focal fabric leading to the choices for the avocado green and rust for the back. All quilting on this quilt was simple stitch in the ditch...nothing fancy. Plus, I applied the binding by machine using a decorative chicken tracks stitch.

Beach Cabin Wall-hanging

A thank you gift to friends for letting us use their beach cabin on the Oregon Coast, Summer 2012.

Mini-Log Cabin fish blocks done with help from Judy E (Enumclaw, WA) at the QCA Leavenworth Retreat Oct 2012, set-in triangle fabric with beach motif is fabric purchased in Massachusetts while visiting New England later in October 2012. Scallop motif quilting in set-in triangles was done with embroidery machine, FMQ stippling around the motif. Stitch in the ditch for the rest of the quilt to let the fish blocks stand on their own. This quilt was also made for a sister as a birthday present in 2009 and as one of my first attempts at quilting. It was a very basic wallhanging quilt made from a pack of five inch squares.

Little Sisters Pillow 2009

This pillow was one of my first quilting attempts and a present for one of my three sisters (who are 10-15 years younger than myself). I took the picture myself about 1960 of them having a tea party in our back yard. The pillow is pretty basic, using photo-transfer fabric sheets, some very basic blocks around the photo and some decorative stitches on my sewing machine.

XC Skier on Gunn Ranch Road

This landscape quilt was made from a picture of our son, Mark, skiing on Gunn Ranch Road in the beautiful Methow Valley of Washington State. It was my second landscape quilt and the first from a photo. I greatly enlarged the photo and then traced the basic fabric layout on tissue paper. I then made a second tracing to be cut up for fabric "templates". This was done with raw edge applique using Steam-a-Seam 2. The two largest trees were made with strips of fabric sewn on in groups from the tree bottom up...to make them loose, ie like branches. I did a lot of thread painting on this piece to represent late winter branches and twigs along the banks and hillsides; the groomed snow and tracks of the ski trail, and the rocks and boulders on the hillsides. This quilt received both a Blue Ribbon and a Grand Champion Ribbon at our 2011 Okanogan County Fair in the free-motion embroidery category.
