quilt I 'helped' with

This is the quilt I was asked to help with. My friend bought the cheater panels and then decided she was in over her head. I ended up making all of the blocks for it and returning it to her. Then she took everything I did to her local guild for more help and somehow managed to talk the girls there into squaring the blocks, and even cutting the sashing and 'helping' her sew it all together into a top. She's very proud of the first quilt she's ever made!! It'll be a gift for her brother this Christmas. I think it came out very well - in fact it's amazing - considering how many ladies pitched in and assisted with it, without knowing what she wanted. And would you believe the only things she bought were the moose panels and batting!?? We all somehow ended up donating the rest, along with our labor. LOL

My brother comishioned me to make this for our Uncle who was suffering from Parkenson's desease. He had been a Heuy pilot during hte Vietnam war. His great pleasure in life was fly fishing, so I combined his interests into this lap quilt. I mailed it to my aunt, only to learn that he died 2 days after recieving it. I regret that I didn't sew faster.I don't know if he ever even saw it... but his family displayed it on the pulpit during his funeral and my cousins all swear that when they think of their father, the image I made is what they feel. I guess I didn't fail completely if it brings them comfort.

Edit: I had originally typed "He died 2 days before his death".... now how anyone could manage that is beyond me! That's what I get for trying to write while the kids are jabbering at me. LOL Oh well..it's fixed now. *Blush*

This is all Horse prints with a fun red 'barbed wire' print for the sashing. There are 2 applique blocks. It too DD and I about 2 years to collect fat quartes of horse prints so we could make it. Her Baby brother thought it was pretty cool when we finished it. :D

Bee-utiful Flowers

This is "Bee-utiful Flowers. I'm ashamed this took me so long... It started out to be a wall-hanging, but I decided to make it into a pillow cover instead.

I printed words on cloth to make the center of the flowers. They read "Forgiving" "Couragious" "Generous" "Productive" and "Cheerful." I quilted the words " Peaceful" "Creative" "Content" and "...'Lieve" into the borders and the word "Just..." in the sky.

I had originally planned to make beads to embellish it with, but, Gosh, that was gonna take an awful lot of time, not to mention glass... so then I thought i'd just embroider it. THEN I saw the cute buttons in the store, and. being the lazy cuss that I am, I took the easiest way out! LOL If you were to copy my design, you'd probably come up with a jillion other ways to add bees to your flowers!

While I was sitting in the sunshine, stitching the last of the buttons on, a friendly little huney bee can buzzing by and landed not far from my feet. I wonder what the little guy was doing out this time of the year? It's getting pretty chilly for bugs...
