MQ7 - Mr. Frosty Patches

I found some snowman fabric on special and decided to make my cousin in Nebraska a quilt. He decorates every room in his house with a different theme for Christmas. I liked the MQ7 pattern so much that I decided it would be the perfect pattern. I started it during a blizzard in February and will send it to him for the holidays.

Snowy Days, Jelly Roll

This quilt is based on the Jelly Roll Race, but I cut strips 3", the fabric is a wintery mix of snowy prints and raindeer etc, from a scrap bag by Keepsake Quilting. The scrap bag has a selection of 1/4 yd cuts so I cut 3" strips in order not to waste an inch that would be left over. I counted the quilts I made like this last year and come up with 8 so far from 30's prints to floral prints, etc. I call this quilt " Dashing Through the Snow" . We got 3 inches of snow this weekend while I was working on it.

String Block Quilts

These are some of the string block quilts my mother-in-law and I make to donate to area orginizations. Some went to the Childrens Cancer Center in Kansas, Local Youth Shelters, Nursing Homes, etc.

Fancy Log Cabin with Fussy Cut Triangles

This quilt was a special order, she brought me the pattern (out of a magazine) and the fabric, several different shades of blue and purple,, and a print for the fussy cut trianges. I had to really take time to find the right position of the print for the triangles. I made the very center four blocks first to make sure they would match good. It turned out very pretty. She used it as a wedding present. Since she gave this one away, she wanted one for herself. This time in blue and orange, but the border print she picked out for the triangles were harder to cut out and did not match the colors very well. It still turned out nice.

Crown Royal Trip

This is the quilt I learned how to do rotory cutting. A friend of mine asked me to make him a quilt from Crown Royal sacks he had collected while working in the oilfield. I could not find anything that would mark on the purple sack fabric. I used a rectangle shape to get the size he wanted. Using yellow and gold with the purple really made a nice trip pattern. Later I learned gold and purple were their school colors. I used the smaller bags cut into squares and put them on point on each side for a border. This was one of my first special order quilts.

Black/White Prints with Red Pieced Stars

This quilt is 80 X 112. Blocks are pieced and set on point. A friend of mine made the top and I machine quilted it with black thread. It was hard to see the black thread so I used post it notes to mark the top when I ran out of bobbin, so I cound find where I left off again.

Military T-Shirt Quilt

My cousin's husband is in the Air National Guard. He travels to different countries. He collected shirts and badges and asked me to make her a quilt. Her house is in an Americana style so I used fabric on that theme. I designed the block layout on EQ6 . After I quilted it, I appliqued the badges on to the blocks. They really liked it and recently displayed it at a quilt show.

This was a special order from a lady I make quilts for. I worked on it for over six months. I developed several shortcuts of my own to make it alittle easier than the original pattern. She ordered the kit and I had no idea what I was in for. My friend still has not gotten it quilted, I think it turned out alot bigger than she thought, it was really long. If you want to make one, I can give you plenty of advice. This picture only shows part of it, I could not get all of it on the bed.

A friend of my husband's who knew that I quilted, gave me a box of old sewing stuff that nobody in his family wanted. It was sewing stuff from his mother and grandmother. He asked me to make a small memory quilt for him from scraps in the box. I found old Sunbonnet Sue blocks and flour sack scraps and this is what I ended up with. I had restored a Nine Patch quilt top that my grandmother had made and that inspired me to put it together with the nine patch blocks.

Trip to Yellow Rose Garden

My mom will buy several yards of fabric and then change her mind on what to do with it. This piece she was going to make curtains but Dad did not like it so much. I had already purchased some of the same fabric so she gave it to me. So now we take turns using it. Trips are so easy, I have enough to put a new one on the bed each month using colors for the season.
