Hi all. Just checking in. I've been studiously working on my current RR quilt top but still running behind. I knew if I got on here I would spend hours. LOL So I refused to even check my iPhone it open my iPad. I did glance this morning and see that several people wanted my recipe for laundry detergent. I will post it as soon as I send off this quilt top which will be the end of the week. It's coming along beautifully. I won't forget to catch up after that. Lunch is over and it's back to work.

Hi All --
Checking in. I've been AWOL for a few days . . . in the hospital . . . but am recovering now at home. I had just overdone it between school, work, and life and I wore myself into an anxiety attack. I've dropped some of the "extras" I had committed myself to so now my schedule is a little more reasonable. I still have school and work but at least the school part will be done in July. I'm keeping quilting and sewing on my "keep" list as my source of stress relief . . . but I did drop some of the classes at my LQS and online. I'm dying to learn Applique at some point, but not now I guess.
Anyway, I'm back . . .The fabric for Ginny's quilt showed up while I was on my mini vacation at Highland Park Hospital so I will be working diligently to get it done and forwarded to Susie ASAP. So sorry for the delay.
CHEERS!
I am glad you are feeling better Kristin! I was worried about you.
no worries on the block. get it to me as soon as you are finished.
Carolyn...Barbaras block is on its way.

This has nothing to do with the rr but I am looking for a quilt pattern to use only 10 blocks. If you know of a pattern, I would appreciate the info.

Pamela,
Can you explain a little more.?
For those that would like to try homemade laundry detergent and fabric softener.
Fabric softener : http://katiejgibson.blogspot.com/2012/01/frugal-home-series-part-2-homemade.html
just too easy and cheap cheap cheap!!!! I buy the cheapest softener the dollar store carries. LOL
Laundry detergent: http://beingcreativetokeepmysanity.blogspot.com/2010/11/homemade-laundry-soap.html
and I added 2 boxes of Biz and 1 box of Clorox 2 for colors. I doubled the recipe which makes about a 5 gallon bucket (but use larger to mix well). The total cost was $45 and I made it May 2012. I've used a little over 1/2 of the recipe for a family of 4 averaging 8-12 loads of laundry a week. In my HE washer I use one coffee scoop per load. If I'm doing whites I add 1 coffee scoop of FINISH dishwasher powder to the mix. I pretreat stains with a spritz of hydrogen peroxide and sprinkle baking soda over it. If need be I gently rub with an old soft toothbrush. If you have a really dull white that needs rejuvenated or is truly brownish, try 1/3 cup of bleach to the above whites recipe. I've yet to find anything I can't get out with the above. BTW, I use cold water for everything except whites and things that need extra sanitation. For fuel soaked clothes (you know men will be boys), presoak in 2 cups washing soda then wash as normal. Smell be gone!
Kristen, so glad you're back up and running. LOL. You sound really upbeat and positive for someone who just took a mini vacation at Holiday Hospital. Sewing keeps most of us going but sometimes we think we are super human. I've found out many a time I'm only human, no super about it. So glad you are back!
kristin ,gald to have you back ,sorry you were all stressed out and Carolyn's top is on the way to you

EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
Kristin,
So sorry to hear that you were in the hospital! I hope they were helpful at the hospital and I'm glad to hear that you got to keep your sewing. :) Cheers to keeping things balanced moving forward!!

Thanks, Maggie. I have such a hard time with whites and I'm pretty much hopeless when it comes to stains on anything. I've been planning to switch something up, just not sure what to do. I will try this. :)
Thanks Maggie for the det info. I might give it a try but in smaller quantity. Just my husband and I now. Thanks.
Linda, watch for sales, use the single recipe and have detergent for a year for around $20. I bought a beautiful large glass jar with lid at the dollar store so my stored detergent looks nice. I just use an old Downey bottle to make my own fabric softener.
Just checking in to let you all know that I am still alive!!! I am realizing that I don't do very well with blogging. I have so many things going on that some things fall by the wayside. I finished the RR that I had for Laura and had a great time working on it. I can't wait to get my next one. In the midst of that, my daughter needed a costume to dress up like Sacajawea!!! She had to give an oral report as the character. It was not hard to make, but was not easy to find what I needed for supplies!!! It came out cute and she did great!!
My husband is also working a turn around at the plant he works at for the next few weeks so its like being a single parent for a while!!! I have been hoping that my life would slow down a little after the holidays but that doesnt seem like its going to happen.
I saw the recipe on making your own detergent. That is not my thing but my sister has been wanting to do that so I plan on passing that information to her!!! Maybe I will get her to make enough for both of us!!!
Hope everyone is having an awesome day!!!
Kristin, sorry to hear about your health problems, hope things are better now. I got your top last week to work on next. I went shopping yesterday, and today had a quilt guild meeting, but got started on it when I got home from that. It's progressing nicely and hopefully you'll be able to relax under it before too long, and remember that we all care about you !
