Maggie, I want to start making my own laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. There are so many "recipes" out there, not sure what works well and what doesn't.
Hope everyone is well~ I'm taking my "bump in the road" and trying to turn it into a smooth path. Knowing I have friends here helps! I may not post a lot but I do read what is being posted. Having the grand daughter is helping to keep me busy and mind off of other things, grand kids really are special!

Maggie aka Grandma Sunshine: Candace Weiss: Maggie, Did your graphite wash out? I am sorry for that. Last week at my quilt class, I had the perfect fabric for my own quilt I was sewing and when I ironed it, dirty dark rust came out of the iron and unto my light colored fabric. I couldn't get it off and ended up really upset, but, oh well-it's just some fabric I said to my self. My quilt store where I sewed did get a complaint from me, though. From now on, I will bring my own mini-iron my mom gave me for Christmas to class. Take care! Candace W. Yes Candace, it did wash out. I make my own laundry detergent that is 100 times cheaper and works better. I was so lucky. Next time that happens spritz some hydrogen peroxide and baking soda on it. That concoction works miracles!

Okay--is it you, Maggie, who makes her own detergent? I would really like the recipe myself. We do alot of laundry here between hubby, my Mom, and myself. I have a new washer that supposedly takes a special detergent, but it has a place for dry stuff--as long as it is okay for septic systems, I don't care!
I did it! after seeing Kristie's beautiful paper pieced border on Dana's center, I thought I am going to learn how to do this. So, today I sat down and tried it, did alot of ripping out seams because it was hard to get used to sewing backwards but I persevered and here's my finished block. learned alot, and you can see where one little corner of the brown and white checked didn't make it to the corner but I did it! I purposely left it like that to remind me to always make sure my piece is big enough. may frame this piece and put it on my wall in the sewing room. I'm tired and my back is hurting but I feel accomplished. I used scraps I had on hand, just a practice piece. will I ever make an entire quilt out of paper pieced blocks, ask me another day with a different pattern.

Nice job, Debbie!
Kristin--You can send me the next block whenever you are finished. Carolyn--I have Barbara's block finished. It turned out lovely, if I do say so myself! I'll send it off Tuesday.

Dyen4fun. my DD makes her own also. You can get the recipe, just google homemade laundry detergent and it will come up. More than one I think. She's used hers for over 2 years now. It makes a large bag and lasts a long time.

Looks good Debbie! I seem to be on a paper piecing trend, though I believe I will break it for Thea's top. :) Happy piecing!
Debbie nice job on the paper piecing . Once you get the hang of it you'll love it . I have become a PP junkie.LOL Barbara
EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
I sure am glad to have a month to work on this third RR. The last one was so pretty I couldn't make up my mind fast enough on what to do with it. Enjoying this RR despite life is going in a big circle right now. Started a new job, cant get quilting stuff under control and need a vacation.
