I'm hearing all this negative family talk/appreciation and it just leaves me speechless. My immediate family is fairly close by, the farthest being about 1 1/2 hours away. I haven't made that many "family" guilts yet, but the ones I have made are being used and cared for properly. I also hear thank yous' even when they are invited for supper, etc. on a regular basis. My grandchildren range in age from 25 yrs to 11 years old.  Our daughter-in-laws are like daughters to us. Unfortunately, after 24 years one son and his wife are divorcing, but we still love her. They get along better now, not that anything was noticeable before and it was and is hard to adjust to the idea of divorce. There was no divorce in my husband's (10 siblings) or my family (5) until our children's generation.

Just wanted to add a happy note.

Hi all,

Just thought I'd get my butt out here and say Hi, I had a wonderful weekend with my niece, she is a twin and I have wanted to make quilts for them for years but I think I get into a rut and dont get it done, sound familiar anyone????   So this wkend niece #1 came over with about 20 tshirts to make a tshirt quilt, it was awesome she cut out and stabilized almost all the fronts and backs and started picking out some fabrics to frame them in!  This Monday she will finish the last 4 tshirts then lay them all over my king size bed to find the design she wants for both the front and back, then the sewing begins!

This makes me feel good because I get to mentor her into my quilting hobby, she is soo excited, and she i s making the quilt that she wants, funny she is choosing alot of the same fabrics I had chosen for her!   She will appreciate and use this quilt for a long time!  :-)

Yesterday I spent the whole day surrounded by fabric containers, choosing fabrics for Sue's border, think I have them all, just my original idea is not going to happen b ut I think the design I am going to start cutting this afternoon will be just as nice!

I am still excited and not stressed yet, I think I will have the border completed by the due date, and SURPRISE in my search for fabric I came across a piece of the same background material Sue used....not enough to use all around my border but there will definately be some in there plus a surprise from me!

Happy quilting

I guess I am a lucky one too. I cannot make quilts fast enough to keep my family happy!  Every time I make one, someone nabs it--I don't even have a quilt I have made on my bed! My grand daughter is the worse culprit of all- she has 5 quilts and I've only been quilting since May 2012...LOL Glad she is only 4, she don't notice the mistakes..hahaha

Any of you ladies want to send me a quilt that you made with love, I'll take it!  I have 4 beds that need hand made quilts!!! ;)

Hugs to you ladies, I would be so hurt if my family didn't want my quilts.

I agree with you about just keeping our quilts among us.  That's really terrible.  Your family sounds like mine.  I have a neice (and nephew) who haven't spoken to any of us in 6 years.  It's all over their father--a disabled Viet Nam vet who is in a VA hospital.  I took over as his POA when I found out that all the money he had saved since he was 20 was GONE.  Between them and his neighbor, they got him for over 100 grand.  My neice had a s***fit  and went crying to my mother.  My Mom felt so bad, she had her diamond ring cut off and gave to her (it was willed to her).  The snot never said thanks and hasn't  spoken to my Mom since--not even a birthday card or anything.  My Mom is 85 and feels terrible.  I've just plain disowned them.

Geez, guess I should apologize for getting all this started, but it's good to get it off your chest and have everyone else do the same.  I finished StefiKays center today!  Tell ya what, I'LL NEVER PAPER PIECE AGAIN!  HA HA

Yes, she is lucky.  Always wished my son would pick a girl who loved crafts, sewing and handmade items.  You know what they say.....if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.  At least my husband and Mom and her sister LOVE that kind of stuff.

I know what you mean, Ginny.  Except for the one I'm making for my DH, I don't really have in mind a home for the other tops I am currently working on.  If I see some fabric I just can't resist, or a pattern that is intriguing to me I'll make it.  I hope to someday be able to give them away to cancer groups or survivors.

Ginny L:

I make most of my quilts because I want to see how they turn out, with no one in mind. I have a big pile now, and every time I start a new one , someone will say "who is it for?"  I say  no one, I just like it. Then why are you making it? you already have a bunch?  Anyway ,now when people come to visit ,they go through the pile and can pick one out if they like it. That way I think they like it better, it's like shopping. Sometimes they even pay for it!

Well girls, I'm headed to see my mom, kids, and grand kids tomorrow. DH is staying home but I'm taking my three fur babies with me.  I haven't seen everyone since Christmas. It is a four hour drive. I'll be back on Monday. I'm taking Zsofia's quilt top with me so I can finish it up and get it in the mail on time.  I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm looking forward to getting my Grandma hugs.  They love my quilts with matching pillow cases!  Of course they are 3 and 5. ;-)

ARGHH!!  I have tried to get EQ5 to print my borders to no avail.  And I can't draw it out on paper, I have tried.

So...I had to figure something else out.  So much for best laid plans!  Anyway, I have a plan for what I'm going to do now.  I have to get it all taken care of today, at least, that's my plan!

Kristin--I'll still be ready for the quilt next week.  Carolyn--I may not be able to mail out Kristin's block until the end of the week, though.  I have to wait until my unemployment check comes through before I will have money for the shipping.

On an upside, I've had two interviews and am hopeful that it will result in an offer!  The expected start date would be Feb 11th.  Please keep your fingers crossed for me!
