okay, group 6 - I changed my mind(woman's prerogative, right?) and redid my block - switching out the center.  Here's the new pics - allowed more color choices in the border

Stefi - you are right, couldn't get it to post the picture so waited a few minutes and tried again

(Ain't that how life should be, wait awhile and try again leads to less frustration when things don't worek right the first time?)

Thanks, Barbara - it just kept perculating in the back of my mind and I decided at last minute to change it.  Someone else wrote on another discussion that she put things in away (black hole) and came back to them later and it looked better than she had originally thought.  I need to do that more in my lief, I think.

Jodie,

Well you did a great job on this one! Looks awesome. I can't believe you did the mariners stars by individually piecing them! Thats amazing!

I signed up for a Craftsy class "Quick Strip Paper Piecing" when they went on sale before Christmas...I havent had time to do the whole thing yet...I skipped ahead to the Mariners Delight and only watched that part because I loved the pattern and that's where my center came from :)

I have to say the instructor takes all the difficulty out of paper piecing. I cant wait to do the rest of the lessons.

You were very brave to jump right in, and obviously very talented.

Re: Teddy's Bearpaw

Brenda - sorry to hear about your son, don't know all the circumstances but I'm crying anyway.  what a great gift this will be for his grandson.

Susie - LOVE your center - wish I was in your group.  I love anything patriotic - I am second generation Air Force - spent 15 years Acitive duty, Montana National Guard and AF Reserves, plus DH is retired AF.  Have some FGs haven't found a project for yet.  And it took me the second look to see USA down the center.  I did a USA quilt, it's in my gallery - finished it around 9/11 so very personal for me.

Susie--I, too, love your center block.  I want to make a flag quilt with black silhouettes of wounded soldiers on it for the hospital ward where my brother resides in a VA Hospital.  He served in the Viet Nam war and was only 20 when stung by a bee and contracted the EEE virus.  He survived, but has much brain damage from it as well as Parkinson's disease from being sprayed with Agent Orange.  He's 63 now and everything has kinda attacked him at once.  Sad case--as well as the other 26 on his floor.  Anything patriotic means the world to me, my husband, and especially my Mom.  Can't wait to see what your girls do with your block.

Brenda, I, too, had a heart sinking, teary eyed feeling when you wrote about your son.  I hope his new grandson grows to really love that quilt.  I'm sure your group will do it justice just knowing what it is all about.
