Finally, my enlarged quilt for my 6'4" grandson in Iraq. Finally "carved" out enough room to spread this on the floor. Couldn't smooth it out - carpet took over and no room to keep moving around it. Got dizzy trying! Hope to get chance to quilt it soon as he will possibly be back soon from his second tour. The base is being turned over to the Iraqi's. Would like to give it to him when he gets home. Borders are 6" (the too-light one), 2 1/2", 1" and 2 1/2" to make it long enough to cover him. That made it wider than I like, but it is as it is!! Have backing - red and black print - and batting so should at least get it basted somehow. Can't kneel on floor or get off it!! Table is too small and have no room for a quilt frame. I guess spray basting then basting to really hold. Spray may not hold through fighting it through the machine.

Springtime in Pearland is ready to go to the senior quilters for finishing. I am very happy with my original fabric choices for this my first mystery quilt.

Autumn windows

At last my mystery qilt top is finished. Because of my choice of fabrics I've lost the overall pattern of the secret windows, Had to do some swapping of fabric to make to my liking but am pleased with the way the overall quilt top turned out. I see this as a quilt that can be used from fall and transition clear through the holiday season because of the colors and patterns in the fabric.

This has been a great learning experience for me, and will definetly be participating in other mystery quilt projects in the future.

Marsha Opinions Please Quilt 3

Just got another idea to run by everyone. I think the dark borders divided by the gold on the outside balances the quilt better. I have printed out all 3 quilt ideas from EQ6 and will be keeping them out where I can see them every time I walk by the table! Maybe one will strike me as the one. This idea would avoid ripping apart and inserting more blocks, but still wonder if the borders overwhelm the quilt center itself. I'm kind-of thinking out loud here to get a quilt large enough but balanced.

This is my second idea - also EQ picture. This is as originally planned but with more blocks to make the quilt larger. This size is 70 x 82. This means I make MORE BLOCKS. I have time because I plan to give the quilt to Zach when he returns from Iraq. He doesn't really need it in Iraq or at Fort Hood in sizzling Texas. Please let me know which quilt you like best. This one will still have fabric #9 as as the binding a in the original mystery. These ideas have been swirling in my mind long enough. Time to finish the quilt. The quilt is assembled without borders so I will have to take last row off on one side and the bottom to add the additional blocks.

This is my original idea to enlarge the quilt for my 6'4" grandson. This is from EQ and some of the fabrics are substitutes because I didn't scan them. The quilt would be 68 x 80 with the borders. The last 2 dark borders are the border fabric #9. The stars are larger than #3 fabric and are red, white and light blue. I'm not sure it really goes with the rest as borders. So many borders may detract from the quilt.

After posting, I noticed that I goofed on one row at the bottom. At least this is just on paper!!

My First Mystery

This was my first mystery. I had no idea how it was going to come out with the fabrics I selected. My daughter Sandi was the on line hostess. You may all know her as kwiltnkats. Darn she wouldn't tell me anything other than what you other quilters wanted to know. She kept me just as another member. I did have some issue but with Sandi's great tutorial, I mastered it. I am so pleased with being able to complete this quilt, I hope you all like it as I enjoy and like seeing yours.
