Just got another idea to run by everyone.  I think the dark borders divided by the gold on the outside balances the quilt better.  I have printed out all 3 quilt ideas from EQ6 and will be keeping them out where I can see them every time I walk by the table!  Maybe one will strike me as the one.  This idea would avoid ripping apart and inserting more blocks, but still wonder if the borders overwhelm the quilt center itself.  I'm kind-of thinking out loud here to get a quilt large enough but balanced.

Posting these pictures and printing the quilts from EQ combined with a friend's views, we may have decided on the borders.  I tried substituting the #2 red for the narrow gold border as she had suggested, and it tied the quilt together better.  The wide border looks enough like the color of the gold in the stars that the small gold border seemed to cause the wide border to look washed out.  The red brings out the red of the print.  The real red is darker like the red in the part 2 blocks.  I should post a "real" picture, but will do that later when I have the borders on.  Maybe someone will have a better idea, but if not, I will go this way.

Sorry, I'm sure "wordy" today.  The head is spinning with ideas.  I need to get this quilt finished and get back to what I NEED to do!  I plan to free-motion stars over the quilt but need to practice first as I have never done it.  I have done outline quilting on focal prints the hard way - feed-dogs up - 50 or so years ago!!

I definetly agree with the narrow red between the two blue borders, but also see the tan center border bein a bit narrower.  The width it is now seems overwheling to me.

Hope you don't mind the comment.

I really like this one best. Comparing all three, it seems to me to have the best balance of borders without overwhelming the center. Great job. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to seeing the final product :)

I believe this is the one that I will use with the red replacing the outer gold.  I also agree that the wide border is too overpowering and detracts from the overall quilt.  This #8 fabric has been my worry all along.  I can make it a little narrower and hopefully have it long enough for Zach, my 6'4" grandson.  I am getting ready to cut the borders now and will see how narrow I can make the light gold.

Hit "add" too soon - sorry.

Thank you everyone for your input.   This has been a special quilt to make - the mystery was loads of fun, the back and forth talk among everyone has been helpful to all.  Thank you for your interest in my project.  Pictures will be coming soon on this quilt and my finished MQ4 top.
