Secret Window Part 2

My copy of number 140 did not arrive in the post and the mag is all sold out apparently.

I am a subscriber to the magazine and am very disappointed not to be able to complete my quilt which is already complete for part 1. I now have part 3.

I live in Victoria Australia, and know no one else in my quilting circle who subscribes.

Secret Window /Shades of Late Summer

This is my top , I really enjoyed doing this one. I did make some minor changes, My stars every or row the square is different shades of blue, an My inner border, I didn't have enough of the pale yellow which is what it was suppose to be ,so I changed it to the dark mauve. I really liked the results .. Thanks you so much Sandi for doing the and helping us all with this great project...Barbara

This was so much fun! 4 year old grandaughter and 7 month old puppy are haggling over who will get it when it is quilted. Puppy would lay on the floor in the sewing room while I sewed. Grandaughter picked out the fireworks fabric on which the rest was based, in fact had to retrieve the border strips from her sewing basket, she claimed it as hers.

I learned alot with this mystery and bought the ez rulers for the half square triangles and the triangle blocks, they are worth the investment. One thing you cant see in the pictures is the dark blue squares and the red of the stars have gold metallic in them. Can't wait for comments and opinions...take a look!

What is the overall size of the completed Secret Window Top? Need this for figuring out my backing fabric so I can finalize plans for completion of my Secret Window #1 quilt.

Couldn't resist looking at the reveal on-line, though I haven't received my latest QM... Aack?!

Of the 4 fabrics just coming into play, two of my blind choices went woefully awry. My number 6 green tone-on-tone looks bilious; and worse -- my numer 8 roses and musical staffs have a grey background that doesn't go at all, and the dark roses compete dreadfully with the center of the quilt.

Feeling like a cheater, I ran to my stash and found some much nicer choices. As long as I'm "cheating," I may change fabric 9 binding as well...

Not sure what I've learned from this, but I'm still having fun and I will have a very pretty quilt when I'm done!

Well, you guessed it. Friday night we had to go to Wally world for cream for breakfast coffee, and since my mag wasn't in the mail I bought a copy. And of course the magazine arrived Saturday! Will pass this issue on to some quilting buddies...I did post a photo of my top laid out on the floor. Can't wait to get it sewn together. This has been the most fun project I've done in quite awhile! Love the wonderful online tutorials, too. Now if I can just get the blocks together without twisting them in the wrong direction!

Well mail just came, hit the ground running. Found a quilt magazine, got all excited came in the house started flipping pages......what no reveal! I must have missed it, flip through again, then I look at the cover......you guessed it wrong magazine. I've now received all my subscriptions with the exception of Quiltmaker, of course.

REVISED Questions About Part 3 - Scrappy Cutting and Sewing...The REVEAL!

There was an error in the initial post of Part 3. Thanks to Photoshop the mistakes have been corrected and the blog post renamed to include "REVISED" in the heading. The mistake was not in the instructions but in the orientation of all Block Xs in Row 5 and Row 7 (it was always correct in Row 3). There were so many who looked at the quilt, unfortunately no one saw the mistake until the post went live.

Part 3 Is Just A Week Away...

On July 29 I’ll be posting Part 3 of Secret Window. Part 3 will be one post and as with Part 1 (Quiltmaker May/June Issue) and Part 2 (Quiltmaker July/August Issue) you will need Quiltmaker September/October Issue. This part puts your Unit 7s together and the rest of your blocks together to give you what you’ve all been at the edge of your seat for “The Big Reveal”. Some of you haven’t posted your completed Part 2 pictures to the Media page yet…get busy! You’ll definitely want to be ready to finish this project as soon as you can get your hands on the next issue.

Quiltmaker September/October subscription issues begin mailing on July 26, on newsstands by August 9.

In part two, when it comes to cutting piece H, it says, "48 template H (see Step 1)."

We haven't precut anything for cutting this, right? I am planning to foundation piece and will cut 2.75" strips to use. Does this sound right to everybody?

Part 2 Is Almost Here...Will You Be Ready?

On May 30^th I'll be posting Part 2 of Secret Window. Part 2 will be one post and as with Part 1 you will need your Quiltmaker July/August Issue. This part will keep you at your sewing machine a bit longer than Part 1! I hope you're not waiting for the last part to be released before jumping in on the mystery fun... If you haven't already finished sewing Part 1...get your sewing machines going. And if you have like Jan, Betty, Melissa, Elizabeth, and Amber2009 have do find that special place where you stored your project. Just a week from today we will be ready to sew Part 2!

Just came across this today and really do like the colors you have chosen. They are so inviting, vibrate and alive that I am working my way through the various batiks in my stash to commence upon this mystery quilt. Perhaps it will be one of my summer qults.

Been reading through the instructions for Part 2 for the third time to familarize myself before I start cutting and sewing. I'm also trying to figure out how I'm going to use my Triangulations software to make the require HST. Do you have any suggestions for those of us that use this wonderful product?

Part 2 quarter square triangles

2 quilty friends and I had an all sewing get together yesterday for the mystery.When we sewed the 1/4 sq,triangles to the 4 patches,we all had a seam allowance of at least 1/2 inch on al 4 sides.Now undecided should we trim them down to have 1/4 inch seams or not.When we measured the block were 7 inches sq if we trim theywill be 6 1/2.Anyone else have this problem?

I went to my stash and found a collection called "gatherings" by Moda that I have had for "oh, so long" I had 8 pieces of the collection. I added a zinger for the 9th and it's in the dryer as we speak so I'll be ready to cut tomorrow.

Wow! Is about all I can say for Part 2. Have our work cut out for us on this one. You weren't kidding Sandi when you said this one would require a "little" more cutting and sewing! Sure wish I'd hurry up and get my magazine now that I've seen your post!
