    I satin-stitch and quilt with metallic thread often and have several tips. My favorite is to use Tri-Flow lubricant, sparingly, on the thread. It's a great all-purpose lubricant. I'll have some more tips, soon, on Quilting Celebrations with Patrick Lose and will add some info on the "Extras"...

    Here's what I use: http://www.triflowlubricants.com/Tri-Flow_Superior_Drip_Lubricant.html You can get this at bicycle shops, Sears...even some Viking dealers. All you do is put a drop, in a line, along the exposed metallic threads on a spool. It takes a TINY amount and I believe it helps the thread...
