Absolutely love the crane.  I would never have thought to do the origami out of fabric.  My oldest sister and I go to "Craft Camp" every spring for 7 days and each year there is a different theme for "First Day Ambiance".  My sister is on the board of this group and always volunteers me for things and a few years ago, she signed up for First Day Ambiance, and we went with an Asian theme.  Part of that theme was for the pens that we keep in the middle of each table in the Dining Hall to have an Origami item attached to the top of them after we wrapped them with flower tape and then we put them in flower pots wrapped in some of my Asian quilt fabric.  What I'm trying to get to is that when I saw that crane, I had a little bit of a flash back of folding over 150 Origami, cranes, swans, frogs, etc.  The frogs were kind of fun, because they actually hopped so we did a frog race with them.  You could do an Origami Frog race for happy hour one day.  It does get quite interesting. Each person is expected to make their on frog before the race, and that was sewww much fun to watch!!!

I would be interested in the instructions for doing the cranes out of fabric though, I agree, I do believe they would make beautiful ornaments.  I love your patio, all the flowers are absolutely wonderful, something else we could do is post pictures of gardens? Just a thought.  Well our weather here in Minnesota as was posted before, cooled down today finally, so I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight, so I believe I should.  Good Night all.  And Party On - Keep the Patio clean!

Hi Wendy,

To quote Jimmy Buffett, it's Five O'Clock Somewhere...so it's never too late to stop in and say hello and relax here.

Amazing that you are one of 10! I bet your family vacations/reunions are impressive. I hope that you get along well with each other. That's a lot of kids under one roof.

Hi Loretta and welcome to the Patio. I learned how to make paper cranes in college - my roomate was from Japan and she taught me how.  I like that they symbolize long life, good health, etc. I made a bunch as favors for my wedding. That was a lot of work! I imagine you had more fun with your frogs at Craft Camp!

The fabric crane is made exactly like the paper one. I used batik fabric, which has a tight weave and a lot of spray starch as I ironed down each fold. I'll post my steps in the main forums this weekend if you would like to see how they are made.

Well friends, I realize the night is still young for many of you (especially for those of you who like to quilt well into the early AM!) but I will be turning in soon. Enjoy the atmosphere, introduce yourselves and stay cool. If you happen to stop in after I am gone, be sure to help yourselves to the desserts in the recipe forum. I'll be gathering all the names of everyone who participated and post this week's winner here tomorrow. I will also bring some fresh coffee in the morning if you just want to see how everything turned out.

And the best thing about this Party Patio is that none of us have to clean up!

I can only imagine how wonderful growing up in a large family would have been! I am the oldest of 2 and my brother died at 35 years old. However I do have a cousin-in-law that I consider 'the sister I never had'. She is a quilter and so is one of her sisters. Since I am new at this I have been able to pick up LOTS of tips and hints from them both.  I am making my son and his wife a quilt for their Q size bed and just finished 42 out of 76 blocks tonight. I break often to see what's going on at the party patio.

Great party, but where do i post a recipe? My favorite patio appetizer is fresh, just picked, strawberries, washed and stemmed. No worries about over indulging :)

Hello, the looks like fun. I already have material for a picnic table clothe, so this should work great for this.

Good morning Liz,

Ooh... The scones sound so good. I am joining you this morning with my peaches-n-cream oatmeal and a nice cup of Yerbe Mat'e Tea.

Every Thursday, some of the ladies from the quilt group get together for lunch. Today we are going to one of my favorite Restaurants.  The Greenery It sits at the mouth of Ogden canyon. It is inside a building that houses a Gift shop.  Called Rainbow Gardens.  The best thing there(well not until August 15th) Is our LQS. Marlene is moving up there Starting this week. We are all happy for her because she will have MORE ROOM!!!  My Heritage Fabrics

Hi Wendy,

Glad you stopped in! I looked up pictures fo Ogden Canyon online - it looks spectacular. You are so lucky to live in a beautiful place like that. Thanks too for sharing the links to your favorite shops. Great inspiration for a road trip out to Utah.

Have fun in your LQS! Ours just has a "Christmas in July Party" where we exchanged quilted ornaments. The hostess decorated her house for the occasion:

Too much fun!
