This quilt top is pieced by machine from Kansas Troubles fabric for Moda. I must now add the backing fabric (muslin) and binding. It is my belief that during the Civil War era, cotton was at a premium and as such would not have been used as batting for doll quilts. So, this little quilt will have no batting. Also, I have learned that in the day of the cotton planter, the slaves would take the worst of the cotton from the bolls and pick out as many seeds as they could, in the time they had ,for the cotton to be used as batting in the quilts made for use in the big house and the slave cabins.
