Hi All,

I am starting my first ever Civil War Quilt.  I received so many beautiful CW fabric during my mailbox birthday surprise that I now have enough to start a little sampler called Journal Quilt designed by a local quilter.

I would love to share what I have made so far.  I will post pictures in a bit..

Oh, my goodness! Annie, this is going to be beautiful. How large will this be when finished? I don't suppose she would mind of you share this pattern. I love it so far.

Annie, you'd mentioned this journal was by a local designer. Is it a book?

No, The pattern in hand drawn and hand written, quite primitive but very folksy.  Very basic

There is a civil war sampler quilt by Barbara Brackman. Last year she posted 1 block each Saturday for the whole year. They are 8" blocks.

You can find the first one here  http://civilwarquilts.blogspot.com/2011/01/1-catch-me-if-you-can.html

If you scroll down to 'blog archive' on the left you can click on each month last year to find all the posts.

She is writing a book for this quilt but said she would leave these posts up till July 1st this year.

I had thought this would be fun to make.

My goodness Annie, this is going to be an awesome quilt!!  A Journal quilt, you say?  So, do the blocks tell a story?  Would love to know more about it.  Do keep us posted on your progress.  Love the colors you've chosen, too. :-)

Karla,

I don't think they tell a story, just the name the designer used for her sampler.  I can email you the pattern if you'd like.

Barbara Brackman is from Lawrence, Kansas. She has written many books dealing with textile history. She not only is a quilter but a historian of quilts as well as the history of the Civil War esp. in the area she is from. As it has turned out, my Mother and I took a beginners quilting class from her in 1983. I feel really privileged to have had that experience. I think I read that she would be putting the 2011 block a week in a book this year or next.
