Kris, I have no idea how I missed so many posts! I must be more thorough in the future! Next month sounds great to start the Harry Potter project!

I've done some paper piecing before but I have a question.

When sewing, do you cross the line at the beginning and ending of your sewing line?  I have always taken 2-3 stitches past the line.  On a show I saw on TV, they said to only start and stop on the lines.  Yes going beyond does make it a bit harder to get the paper off, but it seems there needs to be a crossing of the stitches for stability.  Please give me your opinion.

You need to go beyond the line so that you will cross it when you are sewing the finished block together.  No holes is what you want!!  Gail

I always sew a few stitches beyond the line (making an "X" on the line) this way the points will be pointy.

Thanks ladies for agreeing with me about crossing the lines!  This seems important to me too.  Don't we love it when others agree with us!!!

Thanks Kris...I went and took a look at the Harry Potter project. I am ready and rearing to go. I have two great nephews who are HP fans, not to mention DH and myself. This looks like a great project.

Will the HP project be done one block per week or do we work at our own pace? Are there any set rules?

I also printed out the Mariners Compass to do in my spare time...LOL.

Marque,

we'll be doing two block per month but feel free to work ahead and post your photos when we get to them. I don't want to overwhelm anyone with the assignments. After we get started we can change the frequency or number of blocks each month if need be.

Darn I will probably only be able to mariners compass as I can use any fabric for that project although I do love Harry Potter. It's just a matter of money and fabric supply. Wish I had both at the moment lol.
