Francine,That's a good question. Nana, can it be switched? I've changed my mind to all solid fabric but I have more of the dark fabric in my stash than I do the light. I have a great border print that brings the two together. I think I'll have enough of the light butwas wondering, like Francine, if I could switch them before I start cutting. Thanks again!

I already posted this on the wrong thread...so much to learn! Could someone please tell me what "WOF" means? I am pretty new to machine piecing, and have yet to learn the abbreviations! I am guessing thet "HST" means half square triangle. Is that correct? Thanks!

Shiralee, WOF is Width of Fabric.. Here's a nice place to go to ease some of the confusion...http://www.quiltersclubofamerica.com/blogs/eqeditor/archive/2010/01/01/quilting-acronyms-tbr.aspx

You need to cut 13 strips 1" wide by the width of fabric. You will then cut these strips into (5) 8 1/2 " by 1" sections per each strip . You should have 65 total segments.

Your HST will finish in the block at 2". It should be 2 1/2" before sewing into the block.

These should work fine. Beautiful fabric

If you make your HST by drawing a line down the center of the square then they need to be cut at 2- 7/8". The other sizes are for those that use Thangles or some other method to make their HST
Hi Nana..
I see we cut 13 1 inch strips WOF then cut those into 8 1/2 in segments.... how many should we have? In the directions for the other cuts they say you have 17 squares etc...
so how many 1 inch 8 1/2inch strips total?
thanks
Nana, so the (108) 2-1/2" squares will be cut in half. Does that mean that I should cut 2-7/8" strips and then 2-7/8" squares if I don't use Thangles or another method to create HST? When do the squares become triangles? I'm confused.
Also, a couple of us wondered if the light and dark could be switched.
Maybe I don't know how I make HST.

I've narrowed down my fabric either blues with white or lemon lime orange. I guess I'm lagging behind already.

I don't think you are behind. I'm still trying to figure what size to cut squares!!
I am wondering the same thing about switching the light and dark. I thought I had enough of the light but now I think I was mistaken with my measurements and thinking. I hope we can :)
