Christine, great minds think alike! I asked the same question in the cutting instructions thread and here's what she said:

Yes Debbie ..... you will have one pile 4 x 8 1/2 and one at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2. You will also still have the pile of 2 x 9 1/2 that was set aside.

So after making the cut in Part 2, there will be two piles, 4" X 8 1/2", and 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" ?

This thread is for step 2 construction questions. I hope everyone has fun getting started. Just relax and enjoy the journey. Don't get hung up on placing certain fabrics in certain places. It will all work out and be beautiful.
