I like "Quilter's World" magazine. I used to subscribe to it and the ones you mentioned. These days I look for digital subscriptions since I'm running out of room.

Thank you kris.. i think i have those issues .. i try to get all of them each time they come out but now i finally decided instead of trying to hunt a issue down to subuscrive to love of quilting.. i also like quiltmaker and subscribed to that one too.. do you recommend any other magazine which r good to get.. i have a lot of different ones.. hope we can get this group more active.. perk it back up again..

there hasn't been much activity here for a long time. The first set of instructions for this project can be found in the Jan/Feb 2011 issue of "Love of Quilting" Magazine,

then Mar/Apr and May/Jun.

Good day ladies.. i am new to QCA so i am not sure how all things on this site works.. but i am getting more and more intrigued by civil war repos and civil war books.. i want to make a civil war quilt and maybe a underground railroad quilt but i dont know much info about it so i thought joining this group i would be able to speak with quilters who know more than me.. so i hope someone will be helpful to me .. i am not sure about how to post or how to join in discussions i am learning.. hope everyone has a nice new year.. what book or magzine is good to find patterens? i have been trying to get ahold of a issues of fons and porter jan/feb issue is that 2012 or 2013? many of the stores are out of them.. guess i will have to keep hunting or order one.. i finally subscribed to love of quilting cause i love that one and plus it is hard to get one .

Question on quilting a civil war pictorial panel into a quilt

I have one of the Windham Fabrics Generals panels by Nancy Gere and would like to put it in the middle of a quilt I'm making. But I'm not sure how I would quilt this large block? It's approximately 17 x 21". Should I try to outline the faces in it? I'm guessing I shouldn't quilt diagonal lines through it because it would be the centerpiece of the quilt. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for any advice you could offer.

I bought some fabric, and was trying to decide if I wanted to make this a miniature or full size. Then I decided to change some fabric. I was still mulling things over.

Two weeks ago, a 93 year old quilt mentor passed away. She is remembered for making an unknown number of Double Wedding Ring quilts. Mention her name in my town, and people would associate her name with Double Wedding Rings.

I quilt in a church group that makes quilts for auction, proceeds going to mission work.

I have been asked to make a Double Wedding Ring in this dear lady's honor for one of the auctions.

My Civil War quilt fabric will remain uncut until Oleta's quilt top is complete.

I had all this fabric left over so I decided to make pillow shams to go with the Civil War Sampler. I finished one late last night and the other this morning. Here is one of them. DH already claim the other LOL I just used a simple pinwheel pattern from "All People Quilt" Now, I'm heading for the sewing room to set up Lizzie and get quilting!!! LOL, like I said, even an ugly blankie keeps you warm! We know about things like that living in the Northeast and Great Lakes snow country lol!!!

Thank you Kris! Hope your tooth is better today.. DH has had similar trouble after go to the dentist. I try to avoid them and only get the simplest things done and pay cash, so they don't do much to me because I wouldn't pay if I'm in too much pain when I leave there. I had a dentist who was going to do over $5000.00 worth of stuff to my mouth. I told her that I was 60 years old and if she thought I was going to put that kind of money into my mouth, forget it. a pair of denture would work just fine!

Another one put a bridge in and it took her from November to May to get it done right. By the time she got finished I was 65 and not longer had dental insurance so it was going to cost me an extra $1200.00. I told her to forget that, I do without the blank-blank thing, so she cut the price in half and I paid her $25.00 a month for the next 2 years until it was paid off without interest. I told her at the beginning that I was turning 65 the following March and I needed it done before the end of the year because DH was retiring in February and I would not have insurance and there was no way I could afford that kind of expense. So I figured it wasn't my fault that she did not get the work done right and on time. Now, I'm 67 and no dental insurance so I have to pay cash and the new dentist knows I'm not the fancy, smancy type, and does just what needs to be done, nothing more, nothing less.

Just last month had a molar break at an old filling. He took the old filling out, put in a new porcelain and charged me $168.00 for the whole job. Needless, to say I like this one!

thank you. I had to buy my first month because my subscription had expired, then when the 3rd copy came I buried it under some fabric on my sewing machine cabinet so I know the feeling...

Here is my Civil War Sampler top... Dispite a lot of chopped points and corners I am happy with it. It will not go on show anywhere but here but I remember lots of ugly "WARM" blankies lol

You're absolutely correct Diane.....scrappy works! I jumped in as you suggested and I've finished 13 blocks; one left! Then I'll start on my setting blocks! It's been fun so far; late nights, dreaming about the unfinished block(s) and up early in the morning to get more done......fun, fun, fun!
