I did go to sorting and filtering and my computer was set to "show all". I finally had to set it to "newer than a year" to bring them up. Doesn't really matter as long as they all showed up.

Donna, no problem, I tried to get the important ones up but I have no way of knowing if it works on everyone's computer or not . Barbara

Barbara, thanks for mentioning this. I had noticed the same thing but didn't say anything (thanks Pat, I should have). If you click on the "sort and filter" in red on the left above the topics list, then select to "show all" you will get everything. It worked for me, so again thank you both!!!

Pat ,I have posted all the blocks so far, if you don't see it here let me know and I'll repost it but I think they are all up I still need to do block 9 , I did block 10 because I had misplaced block 9 but have since found it, just can't figure out what I'm going to do with it, Barbara

Very pretty Barbara. I was planning to sandwich a quilt top that is supposed to be a gift. However, DDIL is having a yard sale this weekend and borrowed my big tables. So there is another delay. I also want to get my Craftsy BOM sandwiched and get going on it. Have you posted the first blocks or did you start at 5? I didn't put mine together like the teacher and I substitued a block that I like better than one of hers. Aso, did you follow Leah's quilting plan or did you come up with your own?

My machine is a Janome Horizon 7700 and I'm using Isacord thread. I don't know how old it is because I bought it on Ebay. I had tried other threads on my machine and Isacord is what it liked best. I was starting to wonder if was the thread itself because I had another spool that did fine, until it didn't. Other spools I've had no problems with. I'm using the same thread in the bobbin to match the fabric. I won't swear by it but I'm pretty sure it's happening when I travel right to left and maybe as I'm going up (trying to relive all the frogging I did to remember ). As I said before, the needle was new, the machine was clean and the test piece worked like a charm! I wasn' t going very fast at all simply because I couldn't. The thread was snagging at the needle and the only time it stopped short was when the bobbin was real low and ran back on itself.

I really appreciate everyone's input!

First off Debbie, sorry to hear your having problems , Can you remind me what kind of machine you have? and I need to know what kind of thread are you using? I have a lot of trouble with 40 wt. thread on my Janome ,it just doesn't like it . I can also recommend to use some poly thread ,it work very well when quilting and Leah Day recommends it for all her quilting. The thicker the Thread the bigger needle you need to use and make sure your needles are sharp not the ball ping kind that will make a big difference in your quilting. Its hard to tell but ask your quilt shop for sharp needles for quilting. Sounds like you have done all the proper settings, I just have a strong feeling its your thread and needles.

Hello Debbie;

There are several reasons why your thread would break and it sounds like you have tried everything you should do to fix it. I have a couple of questions which might narrow this down too! First of all, what machine are you using? You could have thread lint built up in the upper threading area of the machine. Also, is it possible that your thread is old? I know that old thread will break easy. I have had this problem myself! If your thread has been stored for a number of years, the thread starts to break down. Especially cheap thread. Just a thought! A larger eye needle on old thread can sometimes correct this, but I would try a different type thread if you can just to see if it helps! But again, I would take a piece of fabric and fold it in half and run it through the threading areas on the upper part of the machine. The fabric will catch any lint that might be stuck in there. I hope you get the problem figured out. Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out.

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I finally stopped procrastinating and started quilting my MQ5 this weekend. After pin basting I Stiched in a ditch around each of the 20 blocks with my walking foot... no problem. Then I put on my free motion foot and decided to take it easy on myself (since it's my first big quilt that I've ever done FMQ on ) and just do a roomy stipple on each block. I had cleaned the bobbin area before I started . I practiced on a small sandwich of the same fabric and batting (same thread I had used on the SIAD)... no problem.

Started stippling on the quilt, got through about 1/3 of the first block... funny sound, snagged and broken thread. Frogged it back to a good point and started again... same thing happened.

Ooops, realized feed dogs are up and I forgot my slippery slider. ... That didn't help.

Changed my old topstich 80 needle for a new one. Didn't help.

Changed the upper tension to about 4.5. Didn't help.

Finally after working through 5 blocks this way I finally got a block that the thread didn't break. I had changed to a quilting 90 needle and moved the tension back to automatic. From then on it was every other block that gave me fits. I rethreaded my needle what seems like 100s of times, from the spool on down, replaced the bobbin a couple of times, made sure my needle was in all the way.

At this point I'm pretty frustrated and wonder what else I should try to adjust to keep the thread from breaking as I'm quilting the borders and the sashing. Your suggestions will be well received! Thank you!

I ended up doing block 10 early as I had misplaced block #9 ,I have since found it and will be working on it as well . I ended up using one of my stencils on this one and did sun rays to accent it , I think this came out really pretty , I hope you will all find a pretty stencil to use and try this one yourself. I look foward to see what all of you do . Barbara
