I saw when Carol passed away and just read their latest newsletter today. She was an amazing woman and I enjoyed reading her newsletter. QU will be missed.

They sent out their newsletter with this notice. Very sad. I understand but I think Carol would probably be disappointed. I took a border class with her that I really enjoyed.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Quilt U will close at the end of 2013. Carol's sudden death took the wind out of our sails. It’s just not the same without her. The teachers and I agree that an orderly shutdown is the best way to honor her memory. Because Quilt U normally goes on hiatus for the holidays, the end of the year is a natural stopping place.

It also gives everyone one last chance to take those classes they were putting off for whatever reason. You won't be able to "catch it next time". To plan ahead, print out our Calendar and mark what you missed. Registration opens six weeks before a class starts. I'll continue to send a monthly newsletter to remind you that a new batch of classes is open for registration.

I didn't know that. I don't see anything on their website. I'm glad I took the classes when I did. I did the Sampler, Building Blocks, Applique (which was OK but not my favorite) and Advanced Layouts. I actually haven't even started the Advanced Layouts but have saved all the lessons. I'll get to it one of these days (months?)

Did anyone take the math class, if so was it helpful? Since Quilt University is shutting down at the end of the year i am looking for any other classes to take. I just signed up for the EQ7 Building Blocks, loved the first class with Fran. I am not much into applique so doubt I will take that.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you but the site has been so dang slow on my MAC that I haven't been on in weeks, too frustrating. Going to try Chrome from home. My work computer doesn't seem to give me any problems with speed.

Thanks Annie, I think you are so right! I'm starting MQ8 (don't know why with all my UFO's, like the State Block Swap, but Oh Well)

I'll let you know about the lessons. I'm definitely going to start them.

George is talking about wanting to take a car trip to San Diego next year (no flying again, ever ever ever). Maybe we'll have a chance to meet up.

I think a few weeks of quilt therapy is what you need to get those numbers down.

Annie, I haven't even started lesson 1 yet. I've saved all the lessons and hope to get to them at some point.

George is feeling pretty good and getting used to the oxygen. It will be a permanent part of his life although he's able to go without it during the day for a couple hours. He kind of pushes the envelope to see what he can do and the doctor says that's OK. He doesn't see the pulmonary specialist until April 17th but the pulmonary test came back showing severe Emphysema. He's in great physical shape otherwise and is back to doing his push ups etc, with the oxygen on. That's a sight to see. For a 72 year old man he's in fine shape in spite of the lung problem.

All this seems to have raised my blood pressure, 195/117. Normally runs about 125/70. I'm sure it'll settle down and may see the doctor if it doesn't.

Judy,

Have you started lesson 3 in Advanced Layout?? I just finished it, wasn't to impressed with it. Lesson was fantastic as ever, just not that into planning crazy quilts, seems to defeat the purpose for me as I visualize it as an embellish as you go kind of quilt.

Just printed Lesson 4, and that one looks really interesting.

How is George feeling?

I believe I speak for many who would LOVE to go to an Arizona retreat! Let us know if there is anything we can do to help get this idea going.

Annie, I sent you a PM about George and our Branson trip.

I haven't even thought of the Quilt U class and not sure when I'll even get to it at this point. I will be sure to save all the lessons.

Hi Judy,

I've been off the forum for a few days and was reading about the retreat and came across posts mentioning some medical problems with your hubby. I couldn't find the beginning in the post as they were pages and pages long. I do hope all is well and that your DH is doing better.

When you have time I'd love to hear more about your retreat experience. I am still trying to get one started on the West Coast - maybe Arizona where real estate may be a bit cheaper.

Haven't started lesson 2 yet in EQ, hope we can chat about that too.

[/quote] Thjanks Kris. Since my machine is a brother, that's why I had not heard of it. I have not been able to play with my lessons yet, but can't get to studio today so will be going through them.

Laurie,

that's what I thought would happen but when I connect my machine to the computer it doesn't show up as a drive as a USB stick would.

The saved EQ design has a 4D icon on it and when I double click it 4D opens. I don't mind using 4D but it does not retain the size of the design.

Wow Kris - you're going a mile a minute - I'm inspired! I guess just like with anything else - this program will have a bit of a learning curve also. I am thinking about your issue with having to open 4d to get the design onto your machine. Does your machine load the design from a usb stick? If so, can't you copy the design from the EQStitch program onto the usb stick directly? I think if you are not making any changes to the design you are working on - and you saved the design in the correct format - you should be able to do that - and be able to skip opening 4d. (I had both the 4d and 5d programs - and owned a Viking for many years). Just a thought..

Keep up the good work - you are truly inspiring me to get my tookis in gear and get these lessons started!

I got some more practice in. This time I just played on my own. No lessons.

I tried to sew with a running stitch style. It didn't turn out good. I think it was my stabiliser/fabric combo. The stitches are very loose.

I restitched the same design as a normal embroidery. I had a mishap where the machine needle came loose. It actually did not break. I replace it but the design is off on one of the green stems.
