Here's a good tutorial with helps for applique.

I think I copied mine at 90% to make the melons a little smaller like the photo of Jane's quilt block. Then you don't have to match them exactly in the center. I creased my squares diagonally to help me position the melons.

The tutorial shows regular and reverse applique, I did all mine regular, no reverse applique.

Very Nice Kris. And you are a pro at taking pictures of your blocks, somehow I always get mine at a bit of an angle or something and then they don't look very straight in the photo.

Thanks Jacy. I scan my blocks. I put them on the scanner then put the cutting mat on top. I don't close the lid. That's my not so secret technique. I use photoshop to straighten any lopsided scans.

Your now 'not so secret' technique will be used by yours truly.  I'm with Jacy, I have such a difficult time getting my blocks to lay properly.  Great idea and beautiful block!

Once again I am just loving everyone's fabrics on this latest batch of blocks!  I haven't done any yet -- itching to get my hands on them, but the family has had me running this week --

Wow everyone, great applique, you guys are so good -- Arrrggghhh I need to work on this.  Mayyyyybe I might try needle turn on this one.  We will see.  Beautiful pinks, Faye, and I agree, the petals are absolutely fine!  Love the floral, Jane!  Kris, love your striking colors!  And thank you for the secret scanning tip, what a smart idea!  Judy and Jacy, really love those blues, so pretty.  Jacy, nice fussy cut on the striped petals!
