I'm also very excited to see what stump work is.  I've heard of it but I'm not sure I've seen any.

Stumpwork is when elements of an embroidery are created in a way that makes them 3-d.  Sometimes the elements are created seperately and attached to the main body.  Sometimes they are stitched that way, and sometimes they are created on top of wire that only attaches at a point to the main body of the embroidery.  It's a lot of fun and it's not as mystical as it sounds.  Here's a link to pictures of stumpwork embroidery.

There are many different types of Embroidery that use Stumpwork.  Here's a link to the Wikipedia explanation of it.

Wow, Linny

That is really pretty.   I hope that you will share pictures of your work.  This is something I would like to see how it's done.

I surely will, Robin.  I have some "stumpworkish" ideas of my own, too, that I want to try.

Linny,

It sounds like I may need a tutorial.

Robin,

I found this really cute tutorial to give you an idea. This would be too cute for an Easter block. http://www.needlework-tips-and-techniques.com/stumpwork.html

I have Di Van Niekerks book: Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork. It's really good. There is a link if you scroll down the page to look through the book. I bought mine on Amazon. http://www.dicraft.co.za/blog/books/res/ .

Here's my newest fairy pic.  This one's enhanced with my software and it realy looks bad in some places.  I posted this one so you could see the minor lines.  I printed one out on cotton fabric unenhanced and it's just right for painting/embellishing.  I figured I'd start out on cotton since I've never done this degree of process before.  The irises will be primarily ribbon work.  The frog and fairy will be stumpwork.  I have a bud up at the top that got cut off a bit.  I'm going to save it by actually making that bud run right up into the patch that will be above it.  Now I'm off to post this and my other sketches in media and then to start painting.  Have a lovely Sunday!

This one is on 8 1/2 x 11.  I don't know how big the block will get, lol.

Thanks everybody.  I got it painted and I used metalic watercolors instead of regular ones.   It still needs definition, but it turned out great.  I was going to post it last night, but after getting back for Michaels I must have been tuckered out because I just fell right asleep.  I'll post it later when I get home from work.
