I would like you to post here any pictures or ideas that you have that you are doing for Christmas - things that would give our members ideas on what they can do - do not worry if what you are posting is not the easiest - sometiems hard projects are good to do too - and we are starting early in the year so we have lots of time.

Let's see your projects and pictures!

Here is pictures of two different placemats that I made from a pattern that I purchased from my LQS. Pattern is called Table Graces, which includes instructions for the placemats, Lined napkins and Lined Tablecloth. Skill Level: Beginner It is  by Jean Dunn designs and was published by QuiltWoman.com.  These are so simple to make no batting inside they are attached to muslim then you add the back. and than turn right side out and stitch around the edge all around.  These can be made for any season, holiday or birthday,  not only Christmas.

Here is an idea for you - a gift for yourself and one for someone else - someone who might be the recipient of a SS program or a mail box - or just a quilter / sewing buddy...

I made these scrap sacks up the other day while Syping with Barbara and because of life this is the first chance i have had to post a picture.  They take a little less then 2 fat quarters - the string hanging down will have a scissors attached but I couldn't find my velcro to finish them up and alas again due to life have not gotten to hobby lobby to buy some - although I am thinking of different ways to attach that doesn't use velcro - but without further ado...

These are from the pattern Scrap Sack 2 and when I find my pattern again I'll add the picture of it... so I can't give you specific measurements but if anyone wants a tutorial on how I did these I'll make a couple more and give you a photo by photo tutorial... they aren't hard... a little bit a finnagling for a couple seams...

Quit rambling...

The upper part bag is filled with poly pellets to weight it down - although you could use walnut shells ground up and use this also as a pin cushion.  Regular poly fill would not weigh it down enough to keep it from falling off...

Thea, you've been reading my mind!  My secret Santa made me one a year ago and I love it and would like another.  If I remember correctly, she used quinoa as a filler.

I have made these with a 4" tile in the top part with a pillow type pincushion attached into the seams. This left an opening between the pin cushion and the tile part where the pair of scissors slid into. I always find the tether on a pair of scissors restricts my movements or the tether isn't long enough for where I want the snipping to occur. I also learned to use a length of electrical wire in the top of the sack kept the mouth open. The other thing I changed to my pattern after I had used mine was to sew vinyl into the inner of the sack so that it was easy to remove the threads. Just some ideas that might be helpful for someone else.

I would love to make these.  Thea, I hope this will be one of  the months' projects.  This is a great site!  I need a couple of more hours in  the day to do all I want to do.

Thea...

Those are so neat. I have those on my I want list. And since my daughter has picked up sewing/quilting it would be the perfect thank you gift. She does so much for me even when she is swamped with life...I think she would use it.

Thank you Thea...

Thea I love the thread catchers! I searched this weekend for a pattern even. I found one but it has another part to it that holds scissors, pencils, pens, etc.

I was given a thread catcher a couple of years ago and love it. Mine is a pin cushion as well filled with crushed walnut shells. I know there has been a debate on whether or the walnut shells dull your pins. I could not tell you but the one thing you may want to keep in mind, if making them for a gift, are nut allergies. I read somewhere that one person used rice. What ever.... it's a great little tool and I love mine!
