Debbie brought to my attention a u-tube video of some 10 minute table runners that you might like to make for gifts for next year for Christmas.
I will let her explain it better to you
Hi everyone! I found this video on Facebook a week or two ago and thought it might be a good fit for this group. I know it's not a new idea here because some of you have made these and posted pictures. They call it a 10 minute table runner but c'mon... 10 minutes? heck, it took me 30 to pick fabrics! So, watch the video and I'll share my results with you.

I made it two different ways... basic and with an inner border.
For the basic version:
cut 1/2 yard (18") by WOF (width of fabric) of your outer fabric
cut 1/3 yard (12") by WOF of your focus/inner fabric
The sewing instructions are in the video.
For the Inner border version:
cut 18" by WOF of outer fabric
cut 10 1/2" by WOF of focus/inner fabric
cut 2 1 1/2" by WOF strips of your border fabric
Sew the strips to the inner fabric and press then proceed with the instructions in the video.
That's where they stopped. I can never leave well enough alone so I edge stiched 1/4" +/- outside the inner fabric and along the edges of the end triangles then I did my first ever feathers in the ends (I pity the bird!) and did a big stipple on the focus fabric to keep it in place after washing and to make it easier to iron.
I did entertain the idea of putting batting inside but decided after a while that the idea here is quick and easy. It's a fast project indeed but give yourselves more than 10 minutes!
Have fun!!

I made about 50 of these last year for Christmas gifts of the different holidays. They really are easy! Hadn't thought about edge stitching or quilting. May have to do that next time.

EAT!! SLEEP !! QUILT!!
Debbie - thank you very much - I hope that with yours and Jean's ideas that more members will join in and bring ideas for all of us. Really make this group for all of us. Those table runners look very nice and I like the addtions that you did... Batting might be a nice idea for some if you want to have it on the table and act as a hot pad too for hot dishes... very very nice... again thank you.
Love this, Debbie. I am always looking for table runner/topper patterns. They make awesome gifts.

I made a couple of these last year and didn't use batting either. They are great for what we used to call table scarves.

Debbie I made one for my DD last year and I used buttons on the fold to hold it down. She used it this Christmas and DGD took it off the table and used it for a cape.
:( There is not high speed/broadband/satellite/DSL in my area so i cannot watch videos (or even play online games!). I live in the country and they say either 1. hills are in the way; cannot pick up a signal OR 2. The fiber optic lines have not been brought out to your area yet. I have very high hopes that my husband will apply for the supervisor position and we will be able to move from this rural nightmare this spring! But, this looks simple enough that I can to do it without video instruction. These would be nice gifts for my DIL's and my MIL; I could make for all different holidays/seasons. Thanks!

Erin - is there any chance that you can get Hughes network out where you live. I have had friends who lived way out in the country where they couldn't get any other kind of internet and they use the satellite system that they offer. I have heard it is reasonable but have not had to use it myself.
Everyone around me that has had Hughes net says it isn't very good. Too many hills around us I guess? Southern Ohio was given grant money a couple years to provide the fiber optic wires and equipment needed to get high speed out in the country. We have yet to see it. I think tomorrow I am going to make some phone calls and see exactly where the money went, there are several families around me with school age children that do not have decent internet services!
I had heard that about it - but they actually say it has gotten better and as long as you have an unobscured view to the southern sky it is supposed to be pretty good. We have Direct TV and in the beginning it wasn't that great either - but they have improved their satellite dishes now 3 times - they always bring us out a new one - no charge - and they have 3 satellites that the signal bounces off of now - you could try and see - they say in their advertisements that you can try for 30 days and no harm no foul if you call and have them turn it off. I know for me dial up was a real pain and sometimes even my high speed dial up sucks - lol - so I would try... never know you might like it!
Erin- caught your post about your internet dilemma and used to have the same problem out in Ohio snowbelt country. Finally got a wireless mobile hotspot (wireless modem) from Verizon and it was great! Costs about the same as HughesNet, Wild Blue, etc., but is much faster and will run up to 5 wireless units at once. Moved last year from Ohio to backwater Florida and still get great service. Check them out!
I am happy to report on Thursday Feb 21st I will have broadband internet through my satellite! Our phone is through Frontier and TV through Dish Network . They just started services out here 6-8 weeks ago and they called us about a bundle package. We will have land line, tv and internet for less than $200 a month...I'll take that. The service includes wi-fi so we can use laptop, ipad and desktops whenever we want. Even if it is slow for high speed (they assured me it won't be slow at all) it will HAVE to be better than dial-up. One of my first projects Thursday will be this table runner :D
