Thea, thanks for the tutorial.  Whenever I try a pattern out for the first time I almost always use red, white and blue fabrics.  One day I will have enough 12" squares to make a patriotic quilt to carry in the car for 4th of July, parades, picnics, beach, etc.  Anyway; I don't have the magazine yet but thought I would make a LaMoyne Star block.. Not perfect, but not too terrible for the first try and it will be great in the first try blocks quilt!

Bev - thank you - he needs a pal - so I am thinking I will make some more - they were really easy once I got my fingers to work right - I still need to get that doll making needle though will make it so much easier to sew on those buttons - unless - teehee - I sew them on before I put the walnut shells in...teehee...

I have been making stars the last couple days - I have 4 done and by tomorrow I should have 8 done - I am thinking I will make a quilt with 24 of the stars.... then see how big that is...

The red white and blue is gorgeous.  I am using some charms I have in my stash, so my quilt will be scrappy.  I am going to make the small stars with an extra row so it can be a lap quilt.

Thank you Thea, Barb, Melody and Martha- The more I look at that block, the more I like it!  When I get the magazine and get a chance to look it over I will decide on small or large and then choose my fabrics.   The charm pack is a great idea; I love scrappy quilts!  Depending on how quickly this quilt comes together I may make a few so I have gifts stashed for emergencies!  ;)

Erin, I am thinking about that too - making a few of the small ones and have them set back for gifts - I get invited to a lot of showers for weddings and babies for my church...and I could make some of these in different color schemes - Christmas - and then spring flower one and I have some kids fabrics that I have been buying over the years that would make up beautifully into this quilt... Great Idea!

Martha - I am truly interested into seeing how your quilt comes out.  I think charms would be great - and to see how you coordinate it all together is going to be fun - for me!  teehee... in looking at your charms I can see two of the blues in one block and two of the purples - will you use an overall background fabric and corner triangles to pull it all together

I laid them out on the background fabric, it's a white on off white patern.  I hadn't picked the corner fabric, but it is a gold with little red flowers.  Each pair is laid out together, so the light purple and dark purple, light blue and dark blue, etc.  I tried to coordinate either the background color or one of the colors in the fabric.  Here is a picture of the first square.  Also, the charms I have are from a fabric exchange I did about 20 years ago and they are 4" squares. My square ends up being 8 3/8 " and I will use a 1 1/2" sashing.  Not exactly what the patern calls for, but I am trying to use my stash and not have to buy any.

Martha - your quilt is going to be beautiful.  I am going to enjoy seeing your progress.  I have about 12 star blocks done and 8 that are almost done - I hope to be ready to do my sashing and cornerstones sometime today... but I fell yesterday and hit my butt and lower back on the steps down into my living room - humongus bruise on my back side... I don't have much of a butt except when it is swollen - teehee... I will get that tutorial done here shortly though.  I think everyone can figure it out though.

I am enjoying this quilt a lot - and can't wait to see everyone's... and I love the scrappieness of yours - an idea for all those out there that have charm packs that they would work fantastically for this quilt.  thank you so much for that idea Martha - great job!

Martha  - that is awesome that you show that different sizes of blocks can be done.
